Job summary

VodafoneZiggo is seeking a Senior Big Data Engineer to design, build and operate scalable data and AI solutions across the organisation. You will work on GenAI, cloud data platforms, real-time streaming or large-scale processing on AWS.

You will collaborate with AI Engineers, Data Scientists, Product Owners and platform engineers to move ideas to reliable production usage. Based in the Netherlands, you will join Utrecht Central Office two days per week.

• Proven experience guiding technical direction and mentoring junior engineers.
• Strong software engineering mindset with emphasis on clean, testable code.
• Experience with Python or a modern programming language and scalable data systems.

Responsibilities

• Design, build and operate data and AI solutions on AWS.
• Develop production-grade data pipelines and backend services.
• Productise LLM-powered applications and customer/agent assist tools.
• Build APIs and cloud infrastructure for data and AI products.
• Work with RAG, vector search, prompt orchestration and AI evaluation patterns.
• Enhance observability, monitoring, security and access management.
• Troubleshoot production issues and improve stability.
• Apply CI/CD, IaC and automation; conduct code reviews.

As a Senior Big Data Engineer at VodafoneZiggo, you build scalable data products and AI-powered solutions used across the organisation. Depending on your background and ambition, you work on GenAI applications, cloud data platforms, real-time streaming, or large-scale data processing on AWS. You will work closely with AI Engineers, Data Scientists, Product Owners, platform engineers and business stakeholders to bring data and AI solutions from idea to reliable production use.

What you do

Depending on your experience and team placement, you:

• design, build and operate data and AI solutions on AWS;
• develop production-grade data pipelines and backend services;
• help productionise LLM-powered applications and customer/agent assist solutions;
• build APIs and cloud infrastructure for data and AI products;
• work with RAG, vector search, prompt orchestration and AI evaluation patterns;
• contribute to reliable batch, streaming or AI application platforms;
• improve observability, monitoring, security and access management;
• troubleshoot production issues and improve operational stability;
• apply engineering best practices such as testing, CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, code reviews and automation;
• contribute to reusable standards and patterns within the Big Data Engineering chapter.

What you bring

As a senior Big Data Engineer, you have proven experience in guiding technical direction, as well as coaching junior and medior engineers.
You challenge and improve engineering standards and you design, build and operate secure, observable and maintainable production systems to help reduce dependency on external expertise by building internal capability.
