Job summary

Lightyear is seeking an Application Engineer to serve as the technical bridge between OEM customers and Lightyear’s product-development teams. You will define architectures, lead OEM projects, and ensure alignment between customer needs and engineering capabilities.

The role involves hands‑on integration work, CAN communication, and cross‑functional collaboration across a small, entrepreneurial team. You will travel to OEM locations, build test setups, and help shape a practical solar-powered

Qualifications

• BSc or MSc in Automotive Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related technical field.
• Broad system‑level understanding of vehicle, electrical/electronic and software architectures.
• Experience translating product‑development work into customer‑specific applications and requirements.
• Systems‑engineering experience including architecture definition, requirements, interfaces, verification and trade‑offs.
• Ability to act as Lightyear’s main technical representative toward an OEM and communicate complex tech clearly.
• Willingness to travel to OEM engineering locations and support integration, testing and demonstrations.

Responsibilities

• Define system architecture, requirements, interfaces, validation approach and project execution with customer and internal teams.
• Translate OEM needs into clear development inputs and coordinate technical execution.
• Create architecture documents, project documentation, validation plans and test reports.
• Lead OEM projects, provide independent technical guidance, and align customer expectations with engineering priorities.
• Support vehicle integration, testing, CAN analysis and lab activities as needed.
