Job summary

Firsty is seeking a technically strong Software Engineering Intern (Test Automation & Tooling) to build automation and tooling that gives confidence in every release. You’ll mainly work on our Flutter app using Maestro, and you may touch Flutter code, databases, CI/CD, devices, Firebase, and Crashlytics.

This internship focuses on automating test scenarios, building internal tools, and delivering clear results to QA and product teams, enabling faster, safer releases.

Qualifications

• Bachelor or higher in software engineering or related field.
• Experience or interest in mobile app development and automation.
• Familiarity with Flutter, Dart, Maestro, CI/CD, databases, Firebase or testing is helpful but not required.

• Software Engineering Intern: Test Automation & Tooling

Firsty is growing fast. With AI helping us build faster than ever, we also need to prove quickly that every release works reliably and that nothing critical has broken.

We are not afraid to break things, as long as we can detect issues immediately, understand their impact, and fix them quickly. Testing should support our speed, not slow us down.

Your assignment is to build the automation and tooling that gives us confidence in every release, makes test results clear and trustworthy, and helps our quality process move as fast as the company does.

The role

We are looking for a technically strong Software Engineering Intern (Test Automation & Tooling) to improve how we validate the Firsty product.

This is not a traditional manual QA role. We already have a QA intern who tests the app from a user perspective. Your focus will be understanding that process, automating as many test scenarios as possible, and building the tools needed to manage and understand the results.

You will mainly work on our Flutter app using Maestro. You may also work with Flutter code, databases, CI/CD, physical devices, Firebase, and Crashlytics.

What you’ll do

Learn and partly execute our current manual testing process.

Determine with QA and development which user flows can be automated.

Investigate more complex scenarios involving calling, payments, eSIM installation, networks, devices, and external systems.

Start by running tests locally and help move them towards CI/CD and physical device testing.

Test tooling & insights

Build a simple internal tool that shows what has and has not been tested.

Store and display test runs, results, failures, logs, and coverage.

Make results clear and useful for QA, development, and product.

Use technologies such as PostgreSQL, Firebase, or Firestore.

Bring manual and automated test scenarios together in 1 place.

Potentially combine test results with Crashlytics, release data, and monitoring information to provide a broader view of app stability.

Development support

Work closely with our Flutter developers and QA intern.

Make small Flutter changes where needed to improve testability.

Investigate whether failures come from the app, automation, backend, device, network, or an external dependency.

Potentially fix smaller issues discovered during testing.

Who you are

You are an engineer first. You enjoy building software, automating repetitive work, and creating tools that make teams more effective.

You have a background in software engineering, computer science, ICT, or a related field.

You can write code and understand how applications are built.

You are interested in mobile development, automation, and software quality.

You can investigate technical problems and communicate your findings clearly.

You are independent, curious, and comfortable questioning existing ideas.

You are willing to learn new technologies during the internship.

Experience with Flutter, Dart, Maestro, mobile development, CI/CD, databases, Firebase, or software testing is useful, but not required.

The basics

You are available full time for at least 4 months, ideally 6.

You can work from our Amsterdam office.

You are proficient in English.

Dutch proficiency is strongly preferred.

You can start as soon as possible.
