PostNL is seeking a Rust Software Engineer to turn optimization algorithms into fast, production-grade software. You will optimise performance, enable seamless Rust–Python integrations, and own deployments on AWS within our planning platform.

You collaborate with Algorithm Experts and Software Engineers to deliver reliable, scalable solutions for large-scale logistics planning. Hybrid work and a strong benefits package are offered.

Your role

In your day-to-day work, you turn optimization algorithms into production-ready software, improve performance and create seamless integrations between Rust, Python and other components of our planning platform. You work on profiling, code optimization and parallel computing to make sure our software performs when planning problems become increasingly large and complex.

You work closely with our Algorithm Experts. They bring deep optimization knowledge, while you bring a strong software engineering perspective. In practice, these disciplines go hand in hand: together you turn algorithms into software that is scalable, reliable and ready for production. Your ownership continues after deployment. You monitor what you build, debug problems and help solve performance issues and incidents. Our platform runs on AWS, where AWS CDK plays an important role alongside services such as Lambda, ECS, Step Functions, API Gateway and S3.

You join the Logistics Dynamic Planning team, where Software Engineers and Algorithm Experts work closely together. The combination of optimization and software engineering is what makes this team special. You solve technical problems together and turn mathematical ideas into reliable software that can be used in our logistics operation.

The benefits of your position are:

• Salary between €4,588.87 and €7,559.08 gross per month at 37 hours per week. But 32 hours is possible too!
• Hybrid working is encouraged and you'll have flexible working hours. After all, your work-life balance matters to us. Employees who work from home more than two days a week get an allowance of €45 net per month.
• Engineering Laptop (Mac or Windows) and a smartphone.
• 8% vacation pay and 25 vacation days on a full-time contract.
• An NS Business Card for business travel and commuting or travel allowance for commuting from 6 km each way up to a maximum of 70 km each way.

What you bring..

You are a software engineer who enjoys solving complex technical problems. Performance matters to you, as does writing clean and maintainable software. You take ownership of what you build, including when it is running in production. And you enjoy working closely with engineers who bring different areas of expertise.

You also have the following qualities:

• You have professional software engineering experience and strong, hands-on experience with Rust.
• You have strong programming skills in Python.
• You have solid knowledge of software engineering principles, including testing, maintainability and clean code.
• You have experience with CI/CD and Git.
• You have experience with profiling, code optimization and/or parallel computing.
• Experience with AWS or other complex technical systems is useful, but not required. For this role, your software engineering and Rust expertise matter most.
