Job summary

Hartwig Medical Foundation is seeking a Software Engineer to contribute to a platform enabling data-driven decisions in cancer care. You will build scalable data pipelines and collaborate with scientists, clinicians, and engineers to advance molecular diagnostics.

The role emphasizes development of features, testing, and architectural input while staying current with cancer research and bioinformatics trends. A hybrid work environment is offered.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of professional software development experience.
  • Strong proficiency in Java and/or Kotlin.
  • Experience with data processing, large datasets, and data modeling.
  • Knowledge of bioinformatics or genomics is advantageous.
  • Familiar with containers, CI/CD, and cloud platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with scientists and engineers to design, develop, and maintain the platform.
  • Develop data processing pipelines and integrate molecular/clinical data.
  • Integrate external systems and ensure data quality across sources.
  • Contribute to architecture decisions to improve scalability.

Would you like your code to directly contribute to better care for patientswith cancer?

As a Software Engineer at Hartwig Medical Foundation, you will work on the platform that enables data-driven decision making and advanced molecular diagnostics for the treatment ofpatients withcancer. You will be part of a close-knit, multidisciplinary team of software engineers, bioinformaticians, scientists, and clinicians, and play a key role in the continued development of our platform. You combine strong technical skills with a genuine interest in the impact your work has on cancer research and patient care.

What You Will Do

You will help drive the development of our platform and actively contribute to its architecture, quality, and future readiness:

  • Collaborate with a cross-functional team of scientists, clinicians, and engineers to design, develop, andmaintainthe platform. Write clean, efficient, and scalable code to implement new features and functionality, and improve existing components.
  • Develop algorithms and data processing pipelines to extract meaningful insights from diverse datasets, working closely with data scientists and analysts to integrate molecular and clinical data into the platform.
  • Collaborate with external partners and third-party vendors to integrate external systems and data sources, ensuring seamless data flow and high data quality between different systems.
  • Identifyareas for improvement and optimization within theplatform, andcontribute to architecture and design discussions to enhance its capabilities and scalability.
  • Design and implement unit tests, integration tests, and automated testing frameworks to ensure the reliability and robustness of the platform. Perform rigorous testing and debugging toidentifyand resolve issuesin a timely manner.
  • Stay up to date with advancements in cancer research, bioinformatics, and software engineering, and proactively proposenew technologies, tools, and methodologies.

What You Bring

You are a driven software engineer with a strong technical foundation and an interest in healthcare:

  • Bachelor’s orMaster’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, ora relatedfield. Equivalent practical experience will also be considered.
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in software development, preferably in a fast-paced industry or healthcare-related domain. Strongproficiencyin Java and/or Kotlin is desirable.
  • Familiarity with data processing and analysis techniques, including working with large datasets, relational databases, and data modeling.
  • Knowledge of bioinformatics, genomics, or molecular biology isadvantageous.
  • Solid understanding of software development principles, including version control, agile methodologies, and best practices for writing maintainable and efficient code. Experience with containerization and cloud platforms is beneficial.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with the ability to drive projects to completion independently.
  • Effective collaboration skills within cross-functional teams, and excellent written and verbal communication skills to convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • A genuine interest in contributing to cancer research and patient care,leveragingsoftware engineering.
