Job summary

Basic-Fit in Tilburg is seeking a Senior Backend Developer to shape how the team works and raise the bar on quality. You’ll focus on the backend, but will jump into frontend when needed, building scalable APIs used across six countries and millions of members.

You’ll collaborate with a mix of engineers, Product Owners and Designers, owning non-functional areas like security, privacy, and performance, and exploring AI tooling to improve development processes.

Responsibilities

Your Role

As a Senior TypeScript Developer, you're not just shipping features off a roadmap. You're a pivotal engineer who shapes how the team works, raises the bar on quality, and helps define our long-term engineering direction. Your center of gravity is the backend, but you're just as comfortable stepping into frontend code when the problem calls for it. You'll be working in Tilburg alongside a talented mix of engineers, Product Owners, Designers, Delivery Leads and even a Talent Coach dedicated to your personal growth.

Your tasks

• Building and maintaining APIs that handle millions of requests without breaking a sweat
• Defining Service Level Objectives for the APIs and systems in our platform
• Driving structural improvements to work towards those objectives
• Jumping into frontend code when a feature, bug, or architectural decision calls for it — you're not fenced off from the client side
• Supporting teams with documentation, architectural design, and tackling complex bugs
• Co-shaping the long-term engineering roadmap — you have a real say in what we invest in
• Co-owning non-functional topics like security, privacy, and performance
• Being a key driver in how we adopt AI in our development process (no prior experience needed — just curiosity and enthusiasm)

Your tech stack: We build our applications with React, TypeScript, Tailwind, Storybook, Service Workers, Next.js and Playwright. Our APIs run on Nest.js, TypeScript, Prisma, Postgres, Redis, Azure EventGrid and Azure ServiceBus. To keep everything running, we use Heroku, Azure DevOps, New Relic, Akamai and GitHub Copilot.

• Is eligible to work in the Netherlands (we don't sponsor new work visas, but existing sponsorships can be transferred)

Salary: A gross monthly salary between €4.650 and €6.650 based on 40 hours, depending on your experience and background.
