Job summary

Awin in Amsterdam is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design, build and operate scalable, high-quality systems within our marketing platform. You will lead technical discussions, mentor peers, and work across local and remote teams to improve reliability and performance.

The role offers a hybrid/remote setup, opportunities to shape technical direction, and a culture that values diversity and inclusion.

Qualifications

Significant backend experience delivering production-grade systems.
Experience with one or more backend languages such as Java, Python, .NET, or Node.js.
Experience designing and building microservices, APIs, and distributed systems.
Good understanding of event-driven architectures, messaging, and high-volume data processing patterns.
Strong system design skills with pragmatic trade-offs.
Experience with cloud platforms, preferably AWS, and infrastructure as code tooling such as Terraform.
Strong knowledge of testing strategies, CI/CD, and engineering quality practices.
Strong debugging, problem-solving, and analytical skills in distributed environments.
Experience with observability tools, metric dashboards, alerting, and operational monitoring.
Excellent communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

Own the end-to-end delivery and operation of features and services.
Design, build, and evolve scalable, secure, and maintainable systems.
Lead technical design discussions and contribute to architectural decisions.
Improve existing applications, reduce technical debt, and strengthen reliability.
Collaborate with Product Managers to turn business needs into technical solutions.
Identify and address technical risks, performance issues, and scalability challenges.
Champion engineering quality through testing, code reviews, tooling, and best practices.
Troubleshoot complex production issues and support system resilience.
Mentor engineers and contribute to the team’s technical growth.
Improve team processes across planning, delivery, and retrospectives.
Collaborate effectively with local and remote teams across the organisation.
