Job summary

BAS World, part of BAS Holding B.V., is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join one of our product teams in Veghel. You will design, build and maintain scalable software and take responsibility for complex technical challenges, while guiding teammates and ensuring maintainable, high-quality code.

You will collaborate with Engineers, Product Owners and business colleagues to translate ambitions into concrete technical solutions, while advancing testing, security and CI/CD practices.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience with software development in PHP/Laravel stacks.
• Experience with cloud-native development on AWS preferred.
• Strong understanding of APIs, distributed systems and data stores.
• Familiarity with CI/CD, automated testing and observability tooling.
• Knowledge of software architecture, security and system scalability.

Responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain scalable software and handle complex challenges from analysis to deployment.
• Translate product ambitions and risks into concrete technical solutions with the team.
• Ensure testing, security, observability and CI/CD standards are applied.
• Explain technical decisions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Mentor junior and medior engineers through code reviews and pairing.
• Lead during incidents and drive root-cause analysis and improvements.

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will work on scalable and future-proof software within one of our product teams. You take responsibility for complex technical challenges, make well-founded technical decisions and ensure that solutions not only work today but also remain maintainable in the long term. You actively contribute to discovery together with the business: exploring the real problem, weighing solution directions and validating assumptions through prototypes before committing to full-scale development.

You look beyond your own work. You help colleagues grow, safeguard quality within the team and identify technical risks, dependencies and improvement opportunities early. You work closely with Engineers, the Product Owner and business colleagues to translate product ambitions into concrete technical solutions.

Your impact lies not only in what you build yourself, but also in how you help your team independently develop better software.

Our IT department is divided into what we call pillars. We have five product pillars: Operations, Parts & Tyres, Buyer, Seller and Platform Engineering. You will work within one of the innovative product teams in these pillars. Together with Engineers, Product Owners, Engineering Managers and business colleagues, you will work on digital products that directly contribute to BAS's continued growth.

What will you do?

• You design, build and maintain scalable and reliable software and take responsibility for complex challenges: from analysis and technical design to implementation and operation.
• You translate product ambitions, technical risks and dependencies into concrete solutions, and work together with the team to make well-founded architectural choices.
• You safeguard the balance between speed, quality, maintainability and simplicity, and put the standards for testing, security, observability and CI/CD - set by the Platform Team - into practice, flagging improvements where you see them.
• You work closely with Engineers, the Product Owner and business colleagues and make technical decisions understandable to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• You guide junior and medior Engineers through mentoring, code reviews, pairing and knowledge sharing.
• You take the lead during complex incidents and ensure that causes are investigated and structural improvements are implemented.
• You identify technical debt and improvement opportunities and encourage the team to experiment with new technologies and modern engineering tools.
• You help the team explore different solution directions and validate them through prototypes, so we build the right thing before we build it at scale.

• You have extensive experience as a Software Engineer and are used to independently solving complex technical challenges.
• You take responsibility for the full outcome of your work, from technical decision to reliable operation in production.
• You think in scalable and maintainable solutions while avoiding unnecessary technical complexity.
• You can clearly substantiate technical decisions and explain them to technical and non-technical colleagues.
• You look beyond your own work, identify risks and improvement opportunities and propose concrete alternatives.
• You act as a sounding board for other Engineers and help junior and medior colleagues make better decisions independently.
• You work from our Veghel office at least four days a week, because we believe in close collaboration and being able to move quickly.

You also have experience with many of the following areas:

• Modern frontend and/or backend technologies (PHP, Laravel);
• Cloud-native software development, preferably on AWS;
• APIs and distributed systems;
• CI/CD, automated testing and databases;
• Software architecture, observability, security and scalability.
