Job summary

Our client, an Amsterdam-based energy trading company, is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join a small, high-impact tech team. You will work closely with traders, analysts and operations to build and maintain the systems behind trading and risk management activities.

The role is back-end heavy but involves full-stack work across the codebase. Requirements include 5+ years of experience, a CS/SE degree, proficiency with Git, strong mentoring and English communication, and cloud experience

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software development experience.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
• Experience through full software development lifecycle from requirements to deployment and maintenance.
• Proficient with Git and standard version control workflows.
• Strong mentoring and communication with non-technical stakeholders like traders.
• Excellent English and communication skills, comfortable with traders.
• Cloud experience preferred: AWS; GCP or Azure also acceptable.
• Strong problem-solving skills with high autonomy in a fast-paced, small-team environment.

You'll join a small, high-impact technology team as a Senior Software Engineer, working closely with traders, analysts, and operations to build and maintain the systems behind the business's trading and risk management activities. The role is back-end heavy, with a strong focus on a new internal trading platform, though full-stack work across the codebase is part of the job. Day to day work ranges from small improvements to brand-new features, and design experience is expected to carry as much weight as development skills.

What we're looking for

• 5+ years of professional software development experience, with a preference for the higher end of that range.
• A bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• Experience through the full software development lifecycle, from requirements gathering to deployment and maintenance.
• Proficient with Git and standard version control workflows.
• Strong people skills and self-awareness, with a genuine ability to mentor others.
• Excellent English and communication skills, comfortable working directly with non-technical stakeholders like traders.
• Cloud experience is heavily preferred: AWS ideally, GCP or Azure also acceptable.
• Strong problem-solving skills, and someone who thrives with high autonomy in a fast-paced, small-team environment.

Nice to have

• Experience with Docker or Kubernetes.
• Familiarity with data pipelines, APIs, or real-time data processing.
• Experience with SQL and relational databases.

Salary & contract

€85,000 - €90,000, depending on experience. HSM possible for the right candidate
