Job summary

Worley is seeking a Senior Safety Engineer for Permitting & Environmental in The Hague, Netherlands. This agency contractor role is a full-time position for approx 12 months with potential to become staff.

You will lead regulatory compliance, permitting and environmental activities across multidisciplinary engineering projects, integrate permitting into early design, and coordinate Dutch permitting processes with authorities. Excellent Dutch and English communication is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemical/Environmental Engineering or related field.
• Strong experience in regulatory compliance, permitting, or safety engineering.
• Solid knowledge of environmental legislation and EIA processes.
• Experience embedding regulatory requirements into engineering design.
• Ability to work independently and in multidisciplinary international teams.
• Excellent communication skills in Dutch and English.

Responsibilities

• Lead regulatory compliance, permitting and environmental activities across multidisciplinary engineering projects.
• Integrate permitting requirements into early design phases (concept, FEED, detailed design) to avoid late-stage risks.
• Manage and coordinate Dutch environmental permitting processes, including authority engagement.
• Act as the key interface between engineering teams, clients, and regulatory authorities.
• Identify permitting risks early and implement practical, cost-effective solutions.
• Support project delivery by managing scope, schedule, and budgets for your discipline.
• Contribute to continuous improvement by applying innovative tools, methods, and digital solutions.

Experience & Qualifications

• A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Strong experience in regulatory compliance, permitting, or safety engineering, preferably in the (petro-)chemical or industrial sector.
• Solid knowledge of PGS guidelines and environmental legislation.
• Experience with EIA processes and environmental assessments.
• Experience embedding regulatory requirements into engineering design processes.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in multidisciplinary and international teams.
• Excellent communication skills in Dutch and English.
