Job summary

payabl. is seeking a senior backend engineer to advance payment solutions, bridging legacy Perl code with modern Python microservices. The role focuses on scalable architecture, reliability, and seamless external API integrations.

You will lead development, participate in architecture decisions, and collaborate with DevOps to enhance CI/CD pipelines and cloud deployments, while ensuring high-load robustness and product-minded delivery.

Qualifications

5+ years backend engineering with Python, FastAPI and AsyncIO preferred.
Perl experience or willingness to work with Perl production code.
Experience building microservices and high-throughput distributed systems.
Deep understanding of integrating third-party APIs, webhooks, retries.
Experience with Docker and AWS (Lambda, ECS) and CI/CD.

Responsibilities

Support and extend the existing Perl-based payment gateway while building high-performance Python microservices.
Architect and implement scalable Python services for reliability in high-load environments.
Integrate third-party APIs and payment services with robust error handling.
Lead code reviews, drive engineering best practices, and optimize performance.
Collaborate with DevOps to improve CI/CD and AWS-based deployments.
