Job summary

payabl. is seeking a Senior Backend Developer to own the File Processing pipeline, migrating from Perl/crontab to Python, with relocation to Cyprus.

You will design, build, and operate systems processing daily scheme files, using Prefect or Airflow, AWS services, and PostgreSQL/MySQL, in a small engineering team. Relocation support is provided, onsite in Cyprus, reporting to the Technical Lead.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of production-grade Python experience.
• Proven experience in job orchestration with Prefect or Airflow.
• Strong AWS expertise (S3, Lambda, SQS, ECS).
• Relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL) and large-scale file processing.
• Advocate for clean code and well-reasoned implementation.
• Excellent written and spoken English.

Responsibilities

• Migrate legacy Perl/crontab pipelines to Python services.
• Design and implement workflow orchestration with Prefect or Airflow.
• Instrument services with logging and metrics (CloudWatch, Grafana).
• Manage data ingestion: landing to S3, parsing, transforming, persisting to DB.
• Process and reconcile payment scheme files (clearing, settlement).
• Contribute to architecture decisions and document best practices.
