Job summary

NES Fircroft is recruiting a Senior Project Engineer with Explosion Protection (EX) compliance experience for a Rotterdam-based client in the oil and gas sector. The role offers hybrid work (three days in office per week) on a 12‑month contract with potential extension or permanent staff options.

You will oversee Ex compliance activities across disciplines, lead the Ex project matrix, and coordinate with Area Project Managers, Procurement and Construction to ensure Ex requirements are met.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent qualification.
• Minimum 10 years in project engineering within oil & gas.
• Proven EX (explosive protection) project leadership experience.
• ATEX/CompEx/IECEx certification desirable.
• Strong leadership, problem-solving and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Oversee Ex compliance activities across the project.
• Surveillance & support of Ex activities (Engineering, Supply Chain, Construction).
• Manage interfaces between disciplines regarding Ex compliance.
• Issue monthly Ex project matrix and dashboard with accuracy.
• Deliver and maintain the Project Ex assurance Plan and specifications.
• Coordinate Ex data with the Ex data-coordinator for reporting.
• Coordinate with Construction and Area Project Managers on Ex requirements.
• Coordinate with Procurement Managers on Ex requirements and bids.
• Ensure Ex requirements are included in subcontractor contracts.
• Manage supplier Ex compliance surveillance and QA at project level.
• Collaborate with Construction Quality Managers to incorporate Ex in documents.

NES Fircroft is recruiting a Senior Project Engineer, specifically with Explosion Protection (EX) complianceexperience. Our client is a leader in floating technologies for the oil and gas industry, and the office is in Rotterdam, Netherlands. Hybrid working options 3 days in the office per week.

This is available as a 12-month contract with possibility of long-term extension. The client is also considering a staff, permanent option also.

Purpose

As a Senior Project Engineer, you play a pivotal role in the successful delivery of complex projects. With a minimum of 10 years of experience, you are responsible for overseeing and coordinating all technical and administrative project activities, ensuring the project objectives are met efficiently and within budget and time constraints. This senior role requires strong leadership and in-depth expertise across multiple project disciplines.

Responsibilities

• Is responsible for the overall management of Ex compliance activities throughout the project.
• Is responsible for surveillance & Support of Ex activities (Engineering +Supply Chain +Construction)
• Is in charge of interfaces between disciplines /project phases regarding Ex compliance on Project.
• Is accountable for the issuance of the monthly Ex project matrix and dashboard and their accuracy.
• Is responsible for delivery and maintenance of the Project Ex assurance Plan and Project Ex specification.
• Prepares the Project Ex matrix with the Ex project Data-coordinator, ensuring this tool covers all follow up and reporting required by Project Management Team during all project phases.
• Coordinates with Area Project Managers (APM) for Construction to ensure that Ex requirements are understood and accounted for CONTRACTOR/YARD proposal submissions and bid evaluations.
• Coordinates with Project Procurement Managers (PPM) for Supply Chain to ensure that Ex requirements are understood and accounted for SUPPLIER proposal submissions and bid evaluations.
• Ensures that same Ex requirements are part of the SUBCONTRACTOR contract and relevant exhibits.
• Manages the SUPPLIER Ex Compliance surveillance (quality assurance at project level), capturing deficiencies or clarifications required by project reviews based on inspection reports.
• Coordinates with Construction Quality Managers and Site Ex Lead to ensure that the Ex-requirements as specified in the Project Ex specifications and equipment specifications are adequately incorporated by SUBCONTRACTOR/YARD(s) in their relevant documents.

Education & Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent qualification
• Minimum 10 years' experience in project engineering within the oil and gas industry.
• Proven experience leading projects from an EX (explosive protection) technical expertise.
• ATEX, CompEx or IECEx certification is desirable
• Strong leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Proficiency in project management software and tools.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
• Effective time management and organizational capabilities.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
