Job summary

APG Asset Management in Amsterdam is seeking a Senior Portfolio Manager to lead private equity fund investments across Europe, from opportunity assessment through execution and long-term portfolio monitoring.

You will develop and defend investment views, drive negotiations to commitment, manage fund exposures, and represent APG externally to GPs and peers while coaching teammates across regions.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of professional experience with a preference for 8+ years in private equity fund investing.
• End-to-end experience in private equity fund evaluation, due diligence, negotiations and execution.
• Proven ability to lead investment recommendations and present to investment committees.
• Independent thinker with strong judgement in a complex investment environment.
• Fluent in English (written and spoken).
• Master's degree or equivalent.

Senior Portfolio Manager Private Equity - Fund Investments

APG Asset Management is looking to expand its Global Private Equity Fund Investments team in Amsterdam. We are considering candidates with at least 8 years of experience within Fund Investments.

The role

As a Senior Portfolio Manager, you are responsible for the execution and monitoring of private equity fund investments in Europe. You play a central role in investment decision-making, from initial opportunity assessment through execution and long-term portfolio management.

You are accountable for forming and driving investment views, including ownership of investment recommendations, decision-making processes, and outcomes. You work in a hands-on manner across all stages of the investment lifecycle, contributing directly to analysis, structuring, and execution. You represent APG externally in interactions with General Partners and industry stakeholders, while working closely with internal teams across regions and strategies.

What you would do

• Define where and how capital is deployed through active market mapping, investment universe analysis and fund selection, while contributing directly to the underlying analysis and decision making.
• Lead and execute private equity fund investments end to end, including forming investment conviction, drafting and defending investment recommendations, and driving negotiations through to commitment.
• Actively manage and be accountable for APG's private equity fund commitments through hands-on monitoring, issue identification, and engagement with GPs.
• Represent APG externally and provide internal thought leadership by forming independent investment views and contributing to high-quality discussions with GPs, LP peers, and internal stakeholders.
• Develop investment capability and professional growth of team members through active coaching and direct involvement in deal execution and portfolio management.

What you bring

You combine strong analytical capability with independent judgement and the ability to operate effectively in a complex investment environment. You work in a structured manner, communicate clearly, and take ownership of outcomes.

Additional requirements and competencies include:

• More than 10 years of relevant professional experience and a strong preference for a minimum of 8 years in private equity fund investing
• Demonstrated end-to-end experience with private equity fund evaluation, due diligence, negotiations, and execution, with ownership of key workstreams and outcomes
• Proven experience in leading investment recommendations and decision processes, including presenting to investment committees
• Ability to operate independently in a complex investment environment, combining analytical depth, structured thinking, and senior judgement
• Professional fluency in English, both written and verbal
• A strong academic record with a Master's degree or equivalent
