Job summary

NN Group is seeking an API Devops Engineer/Senior Platform Engineer to maintain and improve our WSO2-based API platform on Kubernetes in AWS. You will work on cloud-native, lean/agile practices and help shift-left, reliability, and test automation.

Hybrid work in the Netherlands is available, with strong emphasis on collaboration and engineering excellence. The role requires 6+ years in platform engineering with Java, Kubernetes, and API management experience; CKAD and WSO2/Kong/Mulesoft

Qualifications

• 6+ years of experience as Platform Engineer/DevOps
• Strong Java experience
• Kubernetes and cloud (AWS) expertise
• Experience with API platforms and API management
• GitOps deployment experience
• Python knowledge is a plus

Job description

API’s are the backbone of engineering and at Api Squad of NN we are making sure that we deliver an Api Platform which is highly robust,secure and customer friendly and for that we are looking for a skilled API Devops Engineer to join our team. In this team you will work on top of the line tools such as WSO2 as an Api Platform deployed via Kubernetes on our AWS cloud.

What you are going to do

As an Senior Platform Engineer, you will be responsible for provisioning, maintaining and improving our WSO2 platform. you will get under the hood of our tech landscape to realize seamless engineering experience, You have a good command on modern software engineering practices with a focus on team culture and engineering excellence, mostly focusing on DevOps, shift-left practices, test automation, reliability engineering.

The current version of the platform is being built as a software product. This means that we follow lean and agile methodologies to ship features as with a software project. We gradually release software in alpha and beta phases and gather feedback from users during these early stages. Every change is built locally and integrated from the version control system through a pull request.

Another important design principle is simplicity. We aim to optimize the work of the team, so that it becomes more fun to deliver our environment due to reduced complexity and ease of new feature development. Simplification leads to more agility to respond to our users’ demands. We are significantly shifting towards more cloud native services.

Your responsibilities

• You enable the business to focus on where it matters and adds value, developing microservices, managing platform, building managed pipelines etc
• You have worked with Api platforms and know the lifecycle of API Management
• You have extensive experience working with Java

• 6+ years of experience working with Platform Engineer and Programming language ideally Java, if you have worked with Quarkus that’s a big plus
• Experience with Kubernetes, CKAD Certification is a big plus
• Experience working with Api Management platform such as WSO2, Kong, mulesoft or similar is a big plus
• Solid AWS cloud knowledge and experience (Networking, PaaS, IaaS, IAM)
• Experience with GitOps deployment management
• Nice to have working knowledge of Python
• Experience with AWS Cloud Development Kit (CDK) or terraform

And the following soft skills:

• Strong communication (at least English), analytical and collaboration skills
• Working well in a team environment, including the ability to collaborate with others and contribute to team goals
• Ability to identify, analyze, and solve problems creatively and efficiently
• A keen eye for detail to ensure accuracy and quality in coding and project deliverables
• The ability to manage time effectively, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines

This domain has a scale-up type of culture and consists of a group of energetic and empowered engineers and product teams.
