Nefab Packaging Netherlands in Son, the Netherlands, is seeking a Senior Packaging Engineer to design, develop and optimize sustainable packaging solutions for global customers. You will translate complex requirements into production-ready designs, create 3D CAD models, BOMs and technical drawings, and lead projects across Engineering, Sales, Production and Sourcing.

You bring 5+ years in mechanical packaging design, strong SolidWorks/NX/IronCAD skills, and excellent communication in English.

Nefab Group is on a global growth journey, and our Engineering & Design organization plays an important role in developing innovative, sustainable and cost-efficient packaging solutions for our customers.

About The Role

To strengthen our Engineering team in Son, the Netherlands, we are looking for an experienced Senior Packaging Engineer.

In this role, you will be responsible for designing and developing technically complex packaging solutions based on customer, product, transportation and supply-chain requirements. You will translate customer needs into production-ready engineering solutions and work closely with customers as well as our Sales, Production, Sourcing and Engineering teams.

As a Senior Packaging Engineer, you will also take ownership of engineering projects and use your experience to support and guide other engineers within the team.

The position is based in Son, the Netherlands, and you will report to the Engineering Manager.

Your Responsibilities

• Designing and developing innovative and sustainable industrial packaging solutions using materials such as wood, corrugated board, foam and steel;
• Translating customer and technical requirements into practical, production-ready packaging solutions;
• Creating and maintaining 3D CAD models, technical drawings, assembly instructions, specifications and Bills of Materials (BOM);
• Analysing product, transportation, storage, handling and structural requirements to determine appropriate packaging solutions;
• Performing technical calculations and assessments to ensure that designs meet functional, quality and customer requirements;
• Taking ownership of engineering projects from initial customer requirements through design, testing, validation and implementation;
• Coordinating engineering activities and technical deliverables across internal teams;
• Working closely with customers and Sales to understand technical requirements and provide engineering advice;
• Collaborating with Production to ensure designs are technically feasible and suitable for manufacturing;
• Working with Sourcing and suppliers on material selection, technical specifications and alternative solutions;
• Optimising existing and new packaging designs with regard to quality, cost efficiency, manufacturability and sustainability;
• Identifying opportunities for standardisation, continuous improvement and technical innovation;
• Providing technical support and guidance to other engineers and sharing engineering knowledge within the team;
• Supporting and mentoring less experienced engineers where required.

Your profile

For this senior engineering position, we are looking for a candidate who can independently translate complex technical and customer requirements into effective engineering solutions.

• A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, Engineering or another relevant technical discipline;
• A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional engineering experience in a technical design, manufacturing or comparable industrial environment;
• A minimum of 5 years of professional CAD experience, using software such as SolidWorks, IronCAD, NX or comparable professional 3D CAD software;
• Demonstrable experience in developing technical solutions from initial requirements through to production-ready designs;
• Experience in preparing and working with technical drawings, specifications, assembly instructions and Bills of Materials;
• Strong knowledge of engineering principles and the ability to analyse technical and structural requirements;
• Experience in independently managing or leading engineering projects;
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
• The ability to work effectively across different disciplines, including Engineering, Sales, Production and Sourcing;
• The ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders;
• Professional proficiency in English, both written and spoken.

Experience with industrial packaging engineering and packaging materials such as wood, corrugated board, foam and/or steel is a strong advantage.

Experience working directly with customers in a technical B2B environment and experience in an international manufacturing organisation are also considered advantages.
