Royal IHC is looking for a Senior Naval Architect

Do you want to play a key role in the design and engineering of advanced dredging vessels while leading a team of naval engineering professionals? Then this could be the perfect challenge for you.

As a Senior Naval Architect, you will be part of the engineering team within PMG Standard Modular Dredging Vessels. You will act as the technical authority for Naval Basic Engineering and play a leading role in the development and realization of our dredging solutions. Working alongside specialists in mechanical, hydraulic, piping, electrical, and mission equipment engineering, you will contribute to innovative and high-quality vessel designs.

The engineering team consists of a balanced mix of experienced professionals and young talent. Team members value the strong collaboration, knowledge sharing, and willingness to help each other succeed. Working within PMG Standard Modular Vessels offers the opportunity to develop broad knowledge across the entire dredging vessel, from hull design and stability to cutter systems and spud hoisting installations.

The Role

In this position, you will act as the technical lead and Discipline Coordinator for Naval Basic Engineering. You will be responsible for coordinating engineering activities across multiple projects, ensuring high-quality deliverables and compliance with customer specifications, classification requirements, and relevant regulations.

In addition to leading the discipline, you will actively contribute to engineering activities, providing technical expertise in areas such as hull design, stability, weight calculations, arrangements, and structural assessments. You will guide and mentor engineers within the team and serve as a key stakeholder throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and coordinate the Naval Basic Engineering discipline across multiple projects.
  • Provide technical leadership and coaching to a small team of Naval Architects and Engineers.
  • Review and approve engineering deliverables, ensuring quality, consistency and compliance.
  • Manage engineering planning, priorities, quality standards and outsourced engineering activities.
  • Perform and oversee naval engineering activities, including stability assessments, weight calculations, hull arrangements and technical documentation.

  • Collaborate closely with Design & Estimation, Project Management, Procurement, Production, Suppliers and Service departments.
  • Support stakeholders throughout the entire product lifecycle, from concept and design through commissioning and service.
  • Contribute to the development of new products, innovations and continuous improvement initiatives within the product portfolio.
Your Profile
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • At least 7 years of relevant experience in naval architecture, shipbuilding or maritime engineering.
  • Extensive experience in Basic Engineering and complex engineering projects.
  • Proven expertise in stability calculations, structural assessments and vessel design.
  • Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of classification society rules and maritime regulations.
  • Experience with CAD and engineering software used in shipbuilding.
  • Excellent communication skills and a proactive, solution‑oriented mindset.
Royal IHC offers you:
  • A salary between €4246 and €6469 gross per month, plus 8% holiday allowance.
  • Plenty of time off: 40 vacation days for a full‑time position, with the option to buy or sell additional leave.
  • A profit‑sharing scheme that lets you share in Royal IHC’s success.
  • Flexible working: A home office allowance of €2.45 per day + a one‑time payment of €750 to set up your workspace.
  • Travel allowance of €0.21 per kilometer for the days you commute to the office.
  • A solid pension plan through PME.
  • Room to grow: Numerous internal career opportunities and a training budget + access to our IHC Academy to support your development.
  • Health and energy: Unlimited access to our in‑house gym (in exchange for the sustainable employability day).
