Job summary

Avy seeks an experienced engineer to own flight control and state estimation for our PX4-based autopilot, shaping hover, transitions and fixed-wing flight. You’ll dive into control loops and low-level firmware, improving stability and endurance while mentoring peers.

You’ll work with hardware, flight test, and performance teams to plan and execute multidisciplinary projects, delivering safe, autonomous flights and rapid iteration.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in a relevant field.
• 10+ years of software development experience, including at least 7 years of C/C++.
• Strong knowledge of control theory and state estimation.
• Experience with embedded firmware and real-time systems near sensors and hardware.
• Clear connection to robotics, drones, aerospace or autonomous systems.
• Good software architecture for large codebases.
• Experience coaching engineers and improving code quality.

Responsibilities

• Own flight control and state estimation software on our PX4-based autopilot.
• Improve stability, reliability, performance and endurance of the drone software.
• Analyze logs and data to identify root causes and improvements.
• Coach engineers, lead design and code reviews, elevate coding standards.
• Collaborate across hardware, flight performance and flight test teams.
