Job summary

A leading engineering consultancy is seeking a very senior Data Engineer/Data Architect for a critical mortgages transformation program in Amsterdam, Netherlands. This technical authority role involves leading design, architecture, and team coaching, while also handling hands-on ETL tasks using IBM DataStage under pressure. The position requires over 10 years of experience in Data Engineering, especially with complex integrations, and strong skills in ETL, SQL, and Oracle Exadata. The role offers a hybrid working model, with 2–3 days onsite per week.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in Data Engineering, particularly in enterprise or complex integration.
• Hands-on experience with IBM InfoSphere DataStage is a deal-breaker.
• Strong skills in ETL processes, SQL, and Oracle Exadata.
• Ability to own architecture decisions and coach under pressure.

Responsibilities

• Act as the technical authority in a data squad of 6–8 members.
• Design and guide onboarding of ~160 external files into the Data Lake.
• Convert mappings into ETL designs and review the team's work.
• Set standards/frameworks and coach junior engineers.
• Step in hands-on with IBM DataStage under high delivery pressure.

For one of our highly regulated, enterprise-scale clients, we are looking for a very senior Data Engineer / Data Architect to strengthen a critical mortgages transformation program.

This is not a standard hands-on developer role, and not a management position.

It is a technical authority role focused on architecture, design, coaching, and delivery under pressure.

What you’ll do

• Be the technical authority in a mortgages data squad (6–8 people)
• Design the integration layer and guide onboarding of ~160 external files into the Data Lake
• Convert mappings into ETL designs, review work, and unblock the team
• Set standards/frameworks and coach juniors
• Step in hands‑on with IBM DataStage when delivery pressure is high

Must-haves

• 10+ years Data Engineering (enterprise / complex integration)
• Hands-on IBM InfoSphere DataStage (deal-breaker)
• Strong ETL + SQL + Oracle Exadata
• Comfortable owning architecture decisions + coaching under pressure

DataStage / InfoSphere Suite, Information Governance Catalogue, Oracle Exadata, Data Lake, Cognos, scheduling (e.g., UAC), Git, Azure Pipelines, cloud exposure.

Working style

• Calm under pressure, pragmatic, delivery-driven, strong ownership, leads by example (no people manager role).
• Location: Netherlands (Amsterdam)
• Hybrid: 2–3 days onsite per week
