Job summary

Mondu GmbH seeks a Senior Compliance Officer to own the regulatory framework for EMI/PI operations in the EU. You will report to the Chief Legal Officer and liaise with the Dutch regulator (DNB) and other authorities, shaping governance and policy.

You’ll collaborate with Product and Commercial teams on new products, markets and partnerships, and explore AI-driven automation to scale compliance as Mondu expands in Amsterdam and across Europe.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in a compliance role within financial services or payments.
• Deep knowledge of EU/Dutch regulations governing payments and EMI licensing.
• Experience managing relationships with regulators (DNB/AFM or equivalent).
• Strong policy drafting and governance documentation skills.
• Ability to advise senior stakeholders in a fast-moving, high-growth environment.
• Experience or interest in AI usage for compliance tasks.

As Senior Compliance Officer, you'll sit within our Legal & Compliance department and own the regulatory compliance framework that underpins our license to operate as a payments and BNPL provider. Reporting directly to the Chief Legal Officer, you'll act as a trusted advisor to the business, ensure our governance structures hold up to regulatory scrutiny, and represent the company in our ongoing relationship with De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB).

What you’ll do

• Own and maintain our regulatory compliance framework, ensuring policies stay aligned with our EMI/PI license conditions and evolving EU/Dutch regulation (including PSD2, PSR, DORA, AMLD)
• Act as the primary relationship holder with De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB) and other supervisory authorities, managing regulatory correspondence, license conditions, and periodic reporting
• Advise the Chief Legal Officer and senior leadership on compliance risk arising from new products, markets, and partnerships
• Draft, review, and maintain compliance policies, governance documentation, and internal control frameworks required under our licensing obligations
• Conduct compliance risk assessments and gap analyses ahead of regulatory audits, license renewals, or new market entry
• Support governance processes, including compliance reporting to the Board and management committees
• Act as a compliance advisor to Product and Commercial teams during contract review, partnership structuring, and new product launches
• Identify opportunities to embed AI and automation into compliance workflows — from policy monitoring to reporting — so our function scales efficiently as the business grows.

What you need to succeed

• ~5 years of experience in a compliance role within a legal or compliance department at a bank, EMI/PI, or other regulated financial services entity or bank
• Deep working knowledge of Dutch and EU regulatory frameworks governing payments and e-money institutions (DNB and legal requirements, EMI/PI licensing)
• Demonstrated experience managing or being a key part of the relationship with a regulator or supervisory authority (DNB, AFM, or equivalent)
• Strong policy drafting and governance documentation skills, with an eye for translating regulation into practical, business-friendly frameworks
• Comfortable advising senior stakeholders and leadership on compliance risk in a fast-moving, high-growth environment
• Solution oriented mindset: working with our other key departments to find solutions that support Mondu’s growth while ensuring we always stay compliant with the law.
• Previous experience in AI usage and automation of tasks and having a tech-savvy mindset.

It Would Be a Plus If You Also Have

• Prior experience within BNPL, merchant payments, or EMIs specifically
• Familiarity with governance requirements for financial services
• Experience in using AI closely for implementing compliance-related tasks.
