Job summary

Qabird is seeking an experienced mechanical engineer to lead CAD/PLM activities for Hydrogen Powertrain systems in aerospace applications. The role requires 5+ years of engineering work, a solid background in CAD tools, and the ability to deliver complex designs meeting aviation standards.

You will develop detailed 3D models and 2D drawings, support system integration of fuel cells, storage, and power electronics, and coordinate with suppliers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (or closely related field).
• 5+ years of relevant engineering experience.
• Proficiency in CAD/PLM tools (e.g. CATIA, SolidWorks, Siemens NX, Windchill/Teamcenter).
• Hydrogen storage – hydrogen distribution, Fuel Cell Systems, High Voltage Design, etc. (plus).

Responsibilities

• Serve as technical authority for CAD modeling, drafting standards, and design data management.
• Develop detailed 3D models, assemblies, and 2D production drawings for HAPSS components, structures, and installations.
• Support system architecture and packaging studies to ensure integration between fuel cells, storage, power electronics, thermal management, and structural systems.
• Maintain and manage CAD data structures, revisions, and configuration control within the PLM/PDM system.
• Perform tolerance stack-up analyses and support DFM/DFA reviews with manufacturing and suppliers.
• Prepare documentation for validation and verification and contribute to technical review gates.
• Support installation drawings, wiring/tubing routing, and interface control documentation.
• Provide onsite support for HAPSS partners/suppliers.

About this role

Your mission

You will play a key role in the development & integration of Hydrogen Powertrain technologies in a variety of aerospace applications. You will be part of a highly motivated team working in a fast-paced environment delivering pioneering engineering solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as technical authority for CAD modeling, drafting standards, and design data management, while fostering innovative and creative design solutions that meet aviation certification and safety standards.
• Strong working knowledge of aviation drafting and design standards (e.g. ISO GPS&V).
• Develop detailed 3D models, assemblies, and 2D production drawings for HAPSS mechanical components, structures, and installations.
• Support system architecture and packaging studies, ensuring integration between fuel cells, storage, power electronics, thermal management, and structural systems.
• Maintain and manage CAD data structures, revisions, and configuration control within the PLM/PDM system.
• Perform tolerance stack-up analyses and support DFM/DFA reviews with manufacturing and suppliers.
• Prepare documentation for validation and verification in accordance with applicable procedures and regulations and contribute to technical review gates.
• Support installation drawings, wiring/tubing routing, and interface control documentation.
• Provide onsite support for HAPSS partners/suppliers.
• Coordinate with electrical, control, mechanical & hydrogen system suppliers in the development, integration, and testing of cooling, power generation and distribution systems related to HAPSS.

Job requirements

Your luggage

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or closely related field) is required. Master’s degree in a relevant field is an advantage.
• 5+ years of relevant engineering experience.
• Proficiency in CAD/PLM tools (e.g. CATIA, SolidWorks, Siemens NX, Windchill/Teamcenter).
• Demonstrated experience in one or more of the following areas is a plus: Hydrogen storage – hydrogen distribution, Fuel Cell Systems, High Voltage Design, Combined HV and LV Architecture, DC/DC and AC/DC Power Conversion, Wire Harnesses, EMI Mitigation, Electric Motors, Industrial PLC experience
• Demonstrated ability to understand complex engineering challenges and deliver timely solutions.
• System specs, traceability, and verification infrastructure knowledge.
• Strong communication skills and experience working under pressure in a small high performing team.
• Occasional travel to suppliers and industry events.
• Occasional travel in and out of country to supplier/partner sites.
