The Role

We’re looking for a Senior Backend Engineer (Payments & Compliance) to own the backend systems that power Renno’s payments and compliance workflows.

You’ll be responsible for how payment‑related state, permissions, and verification status are modelled, enforced, and exposed across the platform. This includes building robust provider integrations, secure webhook pipelines, and backend workflows that remain correct under retries, partial failures, and real‑world edge cases.

This is a hands‑on senior role with real ownership over backend correctness, auditability, and operational reliability.

What You’ll Do

• Own and evolve Renno’s Supabase / PostgreSQL data model, including policy‑driven access control
• Build and maintain Edge Functions for payments and compliance workflows
• Design and operate secure webhook processing systems (signature verification, idempotency, retries, real‑time updates)
• Build and maintain KYC / compliance integrations, including onboarding, verification workflows, and status synchronisation
• Design and enforce multi‑party state machines for long‑lived workflows
• Implement event‑driven workflows using serverless functions, database triggers, background jobs, and real‑time subscriptions
• Design and maintain comprehensive audit trails, ensuring all state changes are traceable and compliant
• Build reconciliation mechanisms to ensure consistency between Renno and external providers
• Define clear, stable backend contracts that frontend and mobile clients can rely on
• Manage backend deployments across multiple environments

What We’re Looking For

• Strong experience with PostgreSQL and SQL, including advanced queries and database‑level logic
• Hands‑on experience with Supabase or similar platforms where permissions are enforced at the data layer
• Strong TypeScript skills and comfort working with serverless / edge runtimes
• Deep understanding of webhook security (HMAC, idempotency, replay protection, safe retries)
• Experience designing state machines for complex, multi‑party workflows
• Clear understanding that Row Level Security (RLS) is the primary security boundary
• Experience with event‑driven and asynchronous systems
• Experience integrating payment and KYC/compliance systems
• Strong instincts for correctness in systems that must remain reliable under failure and retries
• A pragmatic mindset focused on clarity, auditability, and long‑term maintainability
