Sytac in Amsterdam is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer – Kotlin/Java to join one of our key clients. You’ll build and operate backend services in Kotlin or Java with Spring Boot on cloud infra.

You’ll craft clean, production-grade code with comprehensive test coverage, run services in production with Kubernetes and CI/CD, and collaborate with engineers and business teams. Familiarity with AI-assisted development is a plus.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of backend engineering experience in fast-moving environments.
• Strong hands-on Kotlin and/or Java (JVM) with Spring Boot.
• Solid cloud experience with Azure or GCP.
• Deep understanding of clean code and design patterns.
• Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases.
• Production Kubernetes and CI/CD experience.
• Independent and proactive with clear communication.
• Affinity with AI-assisted development.

Responsibilities

• Build, own, and operate backend services in Kotlin or Java with Spring Boot on cloud infrastructure.
• Write clean, well-tested, maintainable code with comprehensive test coverage.
• Run services in production: CI/CD, incident response, and continuous improvement in Kubernetes.
• Apply solid design patterns and clean code principles to keep systems healthy at scale.
• Work with SQL and NoSQL databases and choose the right one for the job.
• Collaborate with engineers and business stakeholders; flag issues early.
• Use AI and agentic development tools where they add value.
