The Amsterdam International Community School (AICS) in Amsterdam is seeking a qualified Dutch-speaking teacher to join the Language department. The role emphasizes inquiry-based learning within the IB framework, with flexibility to transition from another subject to Dutch language teaching.
You will work in a large, international community, delivering engaging lessons and supporting students from diverse backgrounds. Start January 2027, 0.4–0.8 FTE, on-site at the SouthEast Campus.
Do you want to be part of an international IB school in Amsterdam where learning is at the heart of everything we do? Then we invite you to apply!
The Amsterdam International Community School (AICS) is a Dutch International Primary and Secondary School, offering international education in English to 2400 students of more than 80 different nationalities who are (temporarily) living in the Netherlands and are enjoying high quality, accessible, community-based international learning.
The AICS is a partly-state-funded community school, which enables us to deliver high-quality education at competitive fees. We were the first school in the Netherlands to offer the full IB continuum (IB, PYP, MYP, DP, and CP) and are a fully accredited member of the Council of International Schools (CIS).
AICS students value and embrace differences and diversity. Our education aims to teach our students to become compassionate and wise human beings through knowledge and inquiry.
The AICS is guided by the core values of belonging, a possibility mindset, and learning for life, fostering a supportive community in which students, staff and parents feel valued, approach challenges with optimism, and are committed to continuous personal and academic development.
You are a teacher who values collaboration, demonstrates flexibility in a dynamic learning environment, and is committed to the continuous development of both students and your own professional practice.
We are particularly interested in hearing from qualified Secondary Teachers who are fluent in Dutch, even if Dutch is not currently your listed teaching subject. Perhaps you are qualified in Languages, History, Geography, or another subject, but have a passion for Dutch language and would like to develop this into a new area of your teaching practice. We are particularly interested in hearing from experienced teachers of Dutch as a Foreign Language (NT2), even if they are not yet holding a teaching qualification for Secondary.
You do not necessarily need to hold a Dutch language teaching qualification already. If you are a qualified Secondary teacher in another subject and are fluent in Dutch, we are open to exploring how your existing qualifications and experience could transfer to teaching Dutch. We are willing to support and guide the right candidate through the necessary professional development and training to obtain this qualification.
For our Language department we are looking for a qualified and fluent Dutch-speaking teacher with a strong understanding of or interest in inquiry-based learning, ideally with experience in the International Baccalaureate (MYP/DP).
We are taking a flexible approach to this recruitment. While experience and qualifications in teaching Dutch are welcome, we are also keen to hear from qualified secondary teachers of other subjects who are fluent in Dutch and would be interested in developing their practice in Dutch Language. Your subject expertise, teaching experience and enthusiasm for Dutch may provide an excellent foundation for this transition, and we can discuss the professional development and support that may be needed.
You feel confident being part of a large school community and like to work as part of a professional team. You are able to cater for students with many different social, emotional, and educational needs, from a variety of different cultural backgrounds and countries.
We offer a temporary contract for an FTE of 0.4-0.8. This position is based at our SouthEast Campus. Start January 2027.
The AICS is one of the 15 Esprit schools. At Esprit Schools, we offer innovative education and challenge ourselves to do things differently. We want to explore the world of education without the boxes and categories. Ultimately aiming for learning beyond boundaries. For that, we need you. Your ideas. Your energy. Your Esprit.
The Amsterdam International Community School is committed to providing a safe learning environment for our staff and students. Reference checks will include child protection verification for all serious candidates. A police clearance certificate for previous countries of employment and a Verklaring Omtrent Gedrag (VOG) are required for all staff.
Internal candidates are given priority. Acquisition regarding this vacancy is not appreciated.
