Job description

At S[&]T we contribute to a safer life on Earth by translating space data into valuable and actionable insights. With this, we help organizations, governments and commercial entities to strengthen their information position and thereby improve their decision-making. We focus on 4 domains: Space & Science, Defence & Security, Environment & Sustainability and the High-Tech Industry. We control all levels of the data value chain from data source to user applications, and apply our expertise within our innovations, customer projects and talent acquisition services. Our headquarters are in Delft, The Netherlands and we have two satellite offices in Oslo, Norway and Rome, Italy with a total of 125 experts employed at S[&]T.

We are currently looking for a Scientific Programmer AI to join the team in Eindhoven.

As a Scientific Programmer, you will have the unique opportunity to make an impact on increasingly complex cyber-physical systems (CPS) by applying cutting‑edge AI methods to extract and formalize knowledge for machine diagnostics and software analysis. As a scientist operating from industry labs at high‑tech giants, you bridge the gap between academia and industrial practice in applied research projects. Given the small size of the team, you will have a significant influence on the direction of the project!

Responsibilities
  • You successfully apply cutting‑edge AI methods to improve system’s qualities such as performance and diagnosability, and to modernize engineering workflows by advanced (generative) AI techniques.
  • You will share insights that you gain during your research with both the industrial partners and the scientific community.
  • You will bridge academia and industry practice.
  • You will assess current engineering processes and identify opportunities for (generative) AI integration to formalize knowledge for (probabilistic) inference in machine diagnostics.
  • You will provide expert guidance on AI best practices, tools, and methodologies to engineering teams.
Requirements
  • Master or PhD degree graduate in a field related to knowledge engineering, data science, (probabilistic) inference methods or (generative) AI.
  • Five or more years of experience in applied research.
  • Experience with graph‑based approaches (e.g., knowledge graphs, probabilistic graphical models, graph‑variational autoencoders).
  • Proficiency in developing and maintaining Python‑based code architectures following best practices.
  • You can develop proofs of concept, prototype solution scenarios, and evaluate their feasibility, constraints, and benefits to support the adoption of innovative approaches in industrial environments.
  • You have a system‑level mindset with great attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and collaboration abilities, with demonstrated experience working in multidisciplinary teams and explaining complex AI concepts to various stakeholders.
  • Experience with MBSE modelling frameworks, such as SysML and Capella, is a nice‑to‑have.
Who are you?
  • You are a goal‑oriented professional energized by delivering high‑quality results.
  • You enjoy teamwork and actively contribute to guiding both partners and colleagues towards successful outcomes. At the same time, you are capable of working independently and seamlessly integrating your individual contributions with those of the team.
  • You thrive in a multidisciplinary team of research fellows, industrial partners and academic collaborators, working closely with the partner’s team on‑site, and ensuring alignment with project objectives and timelines.
