Research Technician - Seed Production & Technology

As a Research Technician – Seed Production & Technology (internal job title: Research Assistant), you help turn research questions into practical trials and reliable insights. Working closely with research scientists, you will plan and execute experiments across laboratory, greenhouse, field and seed‑processing environments. Your work directly supports smarter seed technology and production decisions across multiple crops.

Based in Enkhuizen, you will combine hands‑on trial execution with coordination of global Production Research samples. You work independently in your daily activities while remaining closely connected to the responsible scientist and international colleagues.

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Set up and execute research trials in the laboratory, greenhouse, field and seed‑processing environment.
  • Prepare seed samples, perform seed treatment and coating activities, and contribute to coating recipe development.
  • Carry out germination tests, field assessments and seed‑quality measurements, including flowability, plantability and dust‑off.
  • Support the complete trial cycle: planting, crop maintenance, data collection, harvesting and sample preparation.
  • Analyse trial data and discuss observations, conclusions and next steps with research scientists.
  • Coordinate the shipment, tracking and handover of seed samples and testing materials to internal laboratories worldwide.
  • Keep equipment, inventory and workspaces safe, organised and ready for use, in line with 5S, HSE, SOP and QMS requirements.
WHO YOU ARE
  • You have a bachelor’s degree in plant biology, physiology, agronomy or a related field, and hands‑on laboratory experience. Experience in seed technology, seed‑quality testing, seed production or seed processing is strongly preferred.
  • You understand that reliable data starts with disciplined execution. You follow protocols closely, work accurately and consistently, and recognise that deviations can affect research conclusions and decisions.
  • You are comfortable working close to seed‑processing operations. You monitor seed flows on the shop floor, check that work orders are executed correctly, and help oversee contractors during the high season. Where needed, you support operational steps from cleaning through to polishing, always following applicable operational protocols.
  • You have an interest in field activities and are willing to perform field checks and trial assessments. While your work covers several environments, seed quality and seed behaviour are at the centre of your attention.
  • You take ownership, work independently and remain structured when priorities shift.
  • You are comfortable with basic data analysis and statistics, and use MS Office confidently.
  • You communicate clearly in Dutch and English and work effectively with colleagues, temporary staff and international teams.
  • You value a safe, organised workplace and follow HSE, SOP and quality requirements carefully.
