Job description

The Research Engineering and Infrastructure Team (REIT) is looking for a Research Software Engineer. In this role you will collaborate with researchers on projects across diverse domains such as artificial intelligence, intelligent human/agent interactions, bioinformatics, computer graphics and visualisations, software engineering, data management and engineering, information systems, cyber security, high performance computing and embedded systems.

Typically you will work on two research projects simultaneously, with engagements ranging from a few weeks to multi‑year collaborations. You will liaise with researchers to understand their requirements, develop and implement solutions, and document them along the way.

REIT collaborates with all sections of the computer science departments at TU Delft. The ideal candidate has a wide range of skills, for example:

  • Planning, designing and implementing software solutions, including HPC, edge, and embedded software
  • Implementing, training and deploying machine learning models
  • Developing data processing and analysis pipelines, including visualisations
  • Web and mobile development
  • Promoting best practices for reproducible and open research

As a member of REIT you will join a group of friendly and dedicated professionals with diverse backgrounds. We encourage our engineers to continuously develop their skills and explore fields outside their main area of expertise.

We are looking for a full‑time engineer dedicated to shaping innovative solutions for the research and teaching community.

  • Enthusiasm and ability to rapidly acquire fluency in new technologies and fields
  • Capable of switching focus between different projects and teams over time
  • Understanding and willingness to keep up to date and implement best practices for software development and analyses (e.g., version control, issue tracking, automated testing, continuous integration) for reproducible research
  • Experience with developing web applications and interactive visualisations is a plus
  • Strong social and communicative skills in English
  • Team player with experience working in a team

Experience in one of the following would be a bonus:
