The role involves following infection control, health & safety guidelines, maintaining records, and assisting with audits and equipment storage.

Responsibilities

  • Clean and maintain all clinical and non-clinical areas in line with the National Standards of Healthcare Cleanliness 2025.
  • Follow infection prevention control procedures, standards and requirements.
  • Follow health & safety procedures and requirements.
  • Keep detailed cleaning records for audit and compliance purposes.
  • Carry out cleanliness audits and contribute to action plans for improvement.
  • Monitor and replenish consumables (soap, towels, toilet paper).
  • Dispose of waste safely and in line with policy; complete related paperwork.
  • Report maintenance issues or hazards to Operations Lead.
  • Store cleaning supplies and equipment safely per COSHH/HASAW requirements.
  • Undertake legionella flushing if required.
  • Provide cover for annual leave and sickness within the Domestic Support Worker team.
  • Assist with opening/closing of practice premises and car park barrier as needed.
  • Respect patient confidentiality and handle data in line with privacy policies.

Job description

Job Summary As a Domestic Support Worker, you will play a vital role in ensuring that the practice environment is clean, safe, and well maintained for patients, staff, and visitors. Your work will help support the smooth running of clinical services by providing essential cleaning and domestic duties and will contribute to the overall patient experience and to high quality patient-centred care. Duties and Responsibilities The principal duties of a Domestic Support Worker may include any or all of the items listed below. The individual duties may vary from time to time in relation to the prevailing workload and staffing levels, and tasking will be under the direction of the Practice & Business Manager/Business & Finance Manager. Clean and maintain all clinical and non-clinical areas in line with the National Standards of Healthcare Cleanliness 2025, including waiting rooms, consultation rooms, offices, toilets, kitchens, and corridors. Follow and be consistent with infection prevention control procedures, standards and requirements Follow and be consistent with health & safety procedures, standards and requirements Follow the agreed cleaning schedules, and use the correct cleaning methods for each area. Keep detailed and accurate cleaning records for audit and compliance purposes. Take part in cleanliness audits and contribute to action plans for improvement. Monitor and replenish consumables such as soap, paper towels, toilet paper. Dispose of clinical and general waste appropriately and in line with the Waste Management Policy, and completion of related paperwork. Report any maintenance issues or hazards promptly to the Operations Lead. Ensure cleaning supplies and equipment are stored safely in compliance with COSHH, HASAW and other relevant legislation, and used correctly. Undertake legionella flushing of systems if required. Support the team by being flexible with duties as required and providing cover for annual leave and sickness within the Domestic Support Worker Team. Unlock the car park barrier Opening and closing of the practice premises in accordance with practice security protocols. Gritting outside in times of adverse weather conditions Confidentiality In the course of seeking treatment, patients permit staff to gather and store sensitive information in relation to their health and other matters. They have the right to expect that staff will respect their privacy and act appropriately. As such, in the performance of the duties outlined here, all staff must treat patient data as being strictly confidential, no matter how insignificant the detail may appear to be. Transmission of information relating to patients, carers, colleagues and other healthcare workers may be divulged only to persons authorised to receive it. This requirement also covers the activities of the Practice as a business and commercial entity.

Health & Safety The post holder is responsible for promoting and maintaining high personal health and safety standards, and for working to protect the health and safety of those around them in relation to practice policy statements covering the following points: Using personal security systems within the workplace according to practice guidelines Identifying and reporting risks associated with work activities and making recommendations for effective management of the risks involved Making effective use of training to update knowledge and skills Using appropriate infection control procedure, maintaining work areas in a tidy and safe condition and free from hazards
