Job summary

Alfen is seeking a Compliance Officer (R&D) to ensure EV charging product development meets quality, safety and regulatory standards. You will connect engineering, testing and certification bodies to strengthen processes and deliver compliant, future‑proof charging solutions.

You will guide engineers on compliance, coordinate audits and maintain documentation governance. This role requires collaboration with Product, Platform, and external partners to mitigate risks and ensure compliant project

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree required in mechanical, electrical, electronics or technical informatics.
• 3–5+ years of experience in R&D, compliance, testing, certification, quality or multidisciplinary product development.
• Knowledge of compliance frameworks, quality systems and engineering processes.
• VCA certification; VP LS/HS qualifications are an advantage.
• Strong communication skills and stakeholder collaboration abilities.
• Proficiency in Dutch and English, spoken and written.

Job description

Become Compliance Officer (R&D) at Alfen and ensure our EV charging product development meets the highest standards in quality, safety, and regulations. You connect engineering, testing, and certification bodies, strengthening our processes and enabling safe, future‑proof charging solutions.

What will you do?

In this role, you ensure that all R&D activities within EV Charging comply with relevant industry regulations, internal quality frameworks and certification requirements. You support engineering teams with compliance questions, coordinate audits, maintain documentation governance and monitor process performance.

You collaborate closely with Product and Platform Teams, Discipline Experts, the test laboratory and external partners. Your work ensures risk mitigation, complete documentation and compliance‑ready project execution.

Your responsibilities include:

Compliance & Regulatory Governance

• Ensuring that development and testing activities comply with regulations, standards and certification requirements.
• Supporting the creation and maintenance of compliance frameworks, work methods and procedures.
• Monitoring compliance risks and supporting mitigation actions.
• Coordinating external auditors, certification bodies and technical experts.

Process & Documentation Integrity

• Ensuring complete, accurate and traceable documentation of development and testing activities.
• Supporting the introduction of new tools and methods to enhance compliance in engineering.
• Monitoring and reporting KPIs such as quality, hours, issues and deviations.
• Maintaining competency frameworks and identifying training needs within R&D.

Technical Guidance & Cross‑Functional Collaboration

• Acting as sparring partner for engineers and team leads on compliance, safety and standards.
• Ensuring strong alignment between R&D, Test, Product Development and external partners.
• Supporting teams in resolving quality or compliance issues, including root cause analysis.
• Contributing to design reviews and evaluations to verify technical and compliance quality.
• Analysing R&D workflows to identify compliance risks.
• Recommending improvements to strengthen product quality, efficiency and cost effectiveness.
• Supporting implementation of process improvements and new work methods.
• Embedding lessons learned from audits, deviations or evaluations into structural improvements.

What do we ask of you?

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics or Technical Informatics.
• 3–5+ years of experience in R&D, compliance, testing, certification, quality or multidisciplinary product development.
• Knowledge of compliance frameworks, quality systems and engineering processes.
• VCA certification; VP LS/VP HS qualifications are an advantage.
• Strong communication skills and stakeholder collaboration abilities.
• Proficiency in Dutch and English, spoken and written.

Where will you work?

You report to the Technology Manager EVC and work closely with engineers, test teams and product teams. You play a vital role in safeguarding compliance within our development processes and contribute directly to the delivery of safe and high‑quality charging solutions.
