Job summary

Smurfit Westrock is seeking a Quality Technician to inspect printed material and cartons across production stages to ensure they meet customer and company quality and production standards.

You will maintain in-process records, perform sampling and testing, and visually inspect printing, die cutting and gluing. You will collaborate with packers and mechanics to correct defects and ensure accurate line clearance and handoffs.

Qualifications

  • Must have quality manufacturing experience.
  • Good communication and ability to give directions when required.
  • Knowledge of GMPs and SOPs for Quality.
  • Basic math and calculator proficiency.
  • Read/write in English.
  • Pass basic reading, ruler and color hue tests.
  • Ability to differentiate acceptable/unacceptable material.
  • Good attendance; able to work overtime when needed.

Responsibilities

  • Records and maintains accurate in-process inspection records.
  • Inspects in-process material using sampling plans.
  • Performs tests including scanner challenge and scale count verification.
  • Visually inspects printing, die cutting and gluing to standards.
  • Inspects pallets prior to shipping and holds material under QC Hold.
  • Ensures QC Hold material is properly documented and moved.
  • Communicates defects to packers/feeders and mechanics for correction.
  • Checks job bags for required standards before production.
  • Conducts line clearance and documents start of production.
  • Establishes and monitors case counts for new jobs.

The Quality Technician will inspect, at various stages of production, printed material/cartons to ensure they meet both the customer’s and MPS’s quality and production standards.


Essential Job Functions


  • Records and maintains accurate in-process inspection records.

  • Inspects in-process material using statistical sampling plans.

  • Performs various testing methods including scanner challenge and scale count verification.

  • Visually inspects for printing, die cutting and gluing to established standards.

  • Inspects each pallet prior to shipping (accepting or putting on Q.C. Hold).

  • Ensures material placed on Q.C. Hold is properly documented and moved to the Hold Area.

  • Communicates with packers/feeders and mechanics to correct/sort, when defects are found during a production run.

  • Checks job bags for all standards and specifications required for that operation before beginning production.

  • Conducts line clearance and documents before starting production.

  • Establish case counts for all new jobs and monitor them to ensure existing counts are correct.

  • Performs other job duties as assigned.

What You Need to Succeed


  • Quality manufacturing experience.

  • Must have good communication skills and the ability to give directions when required.

  • Must have knowledge of GMPs and SOPs for Quality.

  • Must understand basic math and be able to use a calculator.

  • Must be able to read and write in English.

  • Must pass basic reading test.

  • Must pass ruler test.

  • Must pass color hue test.

  • Must be able to differentiate between acceptable and unacceptable material.

  • Must be able to maintain good attendance.

  • Must be willing to work overtime as needed; significant overtime may be required during busy periods.

  • Must be able to perform all essential functions of this job with or without reasonable accommodation.
