Do you have experience with first-hand formulation in heat seal and barrier coatings, inks, over-print varnishes, or laminating adhesives in the packaging industry? Then you will succeed as our Product Specialist – Packaging Coatings & Adhesives in Heerhugowaard, the Netherlands.

We aim to supply targeted products that meet customer application needs and provide technical support for optimal product performance and process optimization. Our R&D encompasses material science, physical & chemical processing, and analytical science.

You will work in a focused, collaborative culture with diverse international colleagues. We seek a self-starter with strong initiative to fill this newly created role.

As Product Specialist Packaging, your responsibilities include developing innovative products and chemistries across packaging applications, such as functional coatings for heat seal and barrier on various substrates, laminating adhesives, and coatings for corrugated and rigid boards. Ensuring safety and compliance with all regulations, safety precautions, and PPE/PDM requirements is essential.

This role combines product development and innovation, involving interaction with sales, purchasing, production, customers, suppliers, and external partners.

Key responsibilities

• Leading the development of new product platforms to expand our range, including water-based polyolefin dispersions, wax coatings, and hot melts.
• Expanding our technology base to include bio-based or recycled materials.
• Broadening application scope to include water-based, solvent-free, and solvent-based adhesives, gas barriers, and over-print varnishes.
• Seeking out new ideas and technologies proactively.
• Protecting intellectual property through reporting and patent applications.

Your profile

We are looking for candidates who:

• Have at least 5 years of R&D experience with a proven track record in packaging coatings & adhesives innovation.
• Possess a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a scientific discipline (material science, chemistry, polymers, etc.).
• Have hands-on experience with heat seal and barrier coatings, inks, varnishes, or laminating adhesives in packaging.
• Are pragmatic, entrepreneurial, creative, and able to plan and execute independently across multiple projects, supervising small teams.
• Understand critical processes, chemistry, and structure-property relationships to deliver effective solutions.
• Demonstrate inventiveness and innovation, with strong experiment design and analysis skills.
• Are passionate about material challenges and sustainability, aiming to drive technological change toward more robust, sustainable packaging solutions.
