Job summary

KONI in the Netherlands is seeking a product design engineer to strengthen our New Product Development (NPD). You will develop new products for all markets, working with a small specialist team and international colleagues on a project basis.

The role emphasizes designing, modeling and engineering with a strong focus on manufacturability, cost targets, DFMEA and global collaboration across markets.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Mechanical, Hydraulic, Aeronautic or Automotive engineering.
• 5–7 years of experience in a comparable product design role.
• Experience in designing shock absorbers, hydraulic valves and suspension systems.

Responsibilities

• Concept, feasibility and design of new products or new range of products with cross‑functional teams.
• Realization of 3D models, 2D drawings and BOMs for prototypes and products.
• Follow up prototype realization and testing.
• Manage NPD projects using toll gates to meet deliverables on time and with quality.
• Design for manufacturing and for cost throughout the product design process.
• Apply DFMEA during design phases.
• Be responsible for internal norms regarding design and materials.
• Scout and promote innovation projects and technologies.
• Define product roadmap with R&D director based on market inputs.
• Promote standardization of components and tolerances across product ranges.

The core activities of the KONI Group are the development and production of high-quality shock absorbers for cars, commercial vehicles, trains and military vehicles.

Profile

We are seeking a product design engineer to strengthen our New Product Development (NPD).

In this role you are responsible to develop new products for all our markets.

You will be part of a small specialist team and working with international colleagues on a project basis.

Your responsibilities:

• Concept, Feasibility and Design of new products or new range of products working with Application Engineering, Quality and Industrial Engineering.
• Realization of 3D model, 2D drawings, and BOM of new Prototypes and Products
• Follow up on prototype realization and testing
• Follow up NPD project using a toll gate system assuring that all deliverables are met in time and with the right level of quality
• Assure that all the developed products are designed with a strong "Design to manufacturing" and "Design to cost" mindset.
• Apply DFMEA approach in the design phase.
• Be responsible for internal norms regarding design, materials, welding, etc
• Scout and promote innovation projects and technologies
• Together with R&D director define Product roadmap based on market and management inputs
• Promote standardization of components. Materials, tolerance across different range of products

Position Requirements

You have a bachelor’s or master’s degree an engineering discipline (Mechanical, Hydraulic, Aeronautic, Automotive) with about 5-7 years of experience in a comparable role.

Preferably knowledge of designing Shock absorbers, Hydraulic valves, Hydraulic systems, Suspension systems.

Qualifications/ Requirements/ Characteristics:

Interest in general vehicle design and dynamics

• Interest in applying hydraulic damping system and components like valves
• 3D Solidworks, Pro-E proficiency, making drawings is a big part of the job.
• Experience in new product development and/or innovation projects
• Control system and electronic piloting systems is a plus
• FEA analysis for structure and hydraulic would-be a plus
• Signal/data analysis
