About the Job

Nutricia Research Centre for Specialized Nutrition, located in the Utrecht Science Park in the Netherlands, is a state‑of‑the‑art life science innovation centre for the development of new product concepts for specialized nutrition. We create formulas that provide clinically substantiated health benefits to vulnerable consumers – infants, toddlers, elderly and patients.

The Process Application Technology (PAT) team is part of the Global SN R&I team, whose mission is to have smooth and optimized implementation of process solutions in close collaboration with factories to deliver superior product characteristics for our consumers. Furthermore, the PAT team delivers on both the inno/reno pipeline, “fuel for growth” commitments and R&I exploration projects.

Responsibilities

Your main responsibilities: as process manager, you will deliver practical process solutions and implement them within a wide range of projects involving innovations, transformation, productivity, capacity, compliance, transfer, efficiency and outsourcing projects, within the European supply point network. You are expected to engage with the project teams, clarify areas of process expertise contribution (spray drying, dry blending, dissolving, heat treatment, emulsification, fermentation, etc.) and coordinate internally within Nutricia Research to deliver critical process solutions (pilot trials, protocols, etc.) that will contribute to the excellence in startup. You are expected to bring support to other team members on technical topics, tackle process needs for other business‑critical projects, as they arise, and co‑create a team atmosphere with a continuous drive for growth, excellence and effectiveness, as the Process Application Team is a key partner to product developers, factories, global operations and the quality department, among others.

  • Supporting and managing pilot plant and industrial trials on a key project for the application of process technology of a powder product
  • Handling 2‑3 projects focusing on both liquid and powder specialized nutrition products, bringing and implementing processing solutions through lab, pilot and industrial trials
  • Identify, develop and implement the best process technology to produce safe products in an economical way for specialized nutrition
  • Ensure absolute safe products, benefits and substantiation in close cooperation with Quality & Food Safety and consider regulatory aspects
  • Support the implementation of new products to various supply points worldwide
  • Ensure owned portfolio delivers PAT activities (technical assessment, laboratory/pilot plant and factory trials) on time, on track and on cost (incl. process specs/documents and feasibility)
  • Acting as an important link between R&I and Operations in implementing and securing our processes and participating in new factory projects
  • Factory testing, implementation and technical support (best practices and troubleshooting) to factories
  • Set‑up, evaluate and maintain process specifications to enable our factories to run in an excellent way
About You

You are a team player with a proven track record in Process Development/Technology, and have a positive personality, with ability to engage others in a complex multi‑disciplinary setting. You understand group dynamics and ways to approach individuals on a person‑based manner. You have a strong drive and resilience to face and overcome challenges in a dynamic and demanding environment. For this role, it is essential to have a proactive attitude, bringing ideas and opportunities to the table. In addition, you fit this role perfectly because you are/have:

  • Proven track record in Process Development/Technology, at M.Sc. level or similar educational background. A background in Chemical Engineering, Food Technology, Bioprocessing, or similar working/thinking level obtained via experience.
  • 2 years relevant experience in a factory technology job/environment or R&I process‑related environment, preferably the field of liquid, dairy or plant‑based processing – yet not limited to it; experience in performing optimizations, modifications and/or implementation of technologies is valuable
  • Affinity with foods, preferably experience in working in the food industry
  • Adequately mastering food‑ and process technology fundamentals and how to apply these in a practical way
  • Able to lead a diverse portfolio of small and medium size development & factory projects
  • Able to communicate effectively with various functions and levels (operator to director) within R&I, Operations & QFS
  • Team player with an autonomous working attitude
  • Enthusiastic, pro‑active, analytical, open‑minded, curious and hands‑on approach.
  • Professional working proficiency in English is required, other languages are beneficial (in particular Dutch and French)
  • Able and willing to travel up to 20%
