Job summary

Albemarle Netherlands BV in Amsterdam is seeking a Process Engineer responsible for process engineering tasks in pre-projects and project implementations. This in-office role involves leading project teams, performing process studies, and developing Start-up and Commissioning Plans.

Job description

Position: Process Engineer at Ketjen Corporation in Amsterdam. This role has responsibility for process engineering aspects of pre‑projects, project implementation, and commissioning & start‑up in relation to change and expansion projects for all production facilities on site. The position is in‑office and located in Amsterdam.

Responsibilities

• Lead a small project team in the pre‑project phase, responsible for quality, planning, and timely delivery.
• Perform process studies, basic process engineering tasks during pre‑projects, and detailed process engineering tasks during project implementation.
• Develop and execute Start‑up and Commissioning Plans (CSU) in the project execution phase, bringing the project to the operation phase.
• Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) to provide guidance and advice to peers.
• Initiate and develop project scope in the early development stages, taking ownership of the business delivery aspects of the project.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or a related discipline and at least 3 years of engineering experience; a Master’s degree and 5 years of experience are preferred.
• Specialized knowledge and experience in process design, including mass and heat balance calculations, PFDs and PID development, PHA/EHA, PSV design, and CSU.
• Excellent written and spoken English skills; Dutch is preferred.
• Proven project management experience leading a team during the front‑end engineering phase.
• Knowledge of research methods, quality, safety, and environmental guidelines.
• Agility, results‑driven and outcome‑focused mindset with data‑based decision making, problem solving, prioritization, and risk‑based management skills.
• Self‑steering and proactive in shared risk‑taking.
