Job summary

AMOLF in Amsterdam invites motivated Master’s students to join the Interacting Photons group for a hands-on internship in probabilistic computing using nonlinear optical resonators.

You will explore how a p-bit can be realized in an optical cavity, perform experiments and simulations, and contribute to assessing energy efficiency, speed, and precision. The project is mentored by a PhD student or postdoc and takes place within AMOLF Energy Research Academy.

Qualifications

  • Master's student in physics, chemistry, or materials science; mandatory internship.
  • EU nationality or student at a university in the Netherlands.
  • Available for at least 5 months; longer is preferable.

Responsibilities

  • Explore probabilistic computing using nonlinear optical resonators in experiments and simulations.
  • Investigate how to implement an optical p-bit experimentally and assess its performance.
  • Analyze determinants of energy efficiency, speed, and precision, and how these metrics relate to each other.

Education

Master's program in physics, chemistry, materials science, or related field
