Job summary

European School The Hague Primary invites applications for a Cover Teacher in Primary School. The role covers lessons when class teachers are absent, supporting pupils across EY–P5 and maintaining a positive classroom environment in a diverse, international context.

The position is 0.6 FTE, with a salary scale aligned to the Dutch CAO PO; start date around 01 October 2026, and closing date 01 September 2026. The Hague location offers an international community and development opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Fully qualified teacher status to teach in Primary Education recognized by DUO or obtained in the Netherlands.
  • UK/Ireland trained teachers with QTS/SFR and completed or exempt from the statutory induction period.
  • Proficiency in English, Dutch, German or French would be an advantage.
  • Living in the Netherlands with a valid working visa.

  • Salary scale: minimum of €3622 and a maximum of €5520 for a full-time contract

We are seeking an enthusiastic and adaptable Cover Teacher to join our Primary School team. In this rewarding role, you will play a vital part in our school community, stepping in to educate and support pupils when a class teacher is absent (planned and unplanned). Your contribution will help ensure learning continues, maintaining a positive, engaging, and nurturing environment for our children across all language sections and areas of school.

Your responsibilities
  • Covering for teachers during their absence (e.g., due to illness or leave)
  • Delivering lessons according to existing lesson plans and guidelines
  • Supporting pupils in all year groups (EY-P5) and classes
  • Contributing to a positive and productive classroom environment
Requirements
  • Fully qualified teacher status to teach in Primary Education recognised by DUO (Foreign diploma in the Netherlands: Working as a teacher - DUO) or obtained in the Netherlands
  • If you completed your studies in the UK/Ireland: you have been awarded QTS/SFR or equivalent and have successfully completed or are exempt from the statutory induction period
  • Proficiency in at least one or more of the following languages: English, Dutch, German or French would be considered an advantage
  • Living in the Netherlands with a valid working visa
