About the Opportunity

We are seeking a Medior to Senior, hands‑on Power BI Developer / Analyst to support a fast‑growing organisation in the Netherlands with the development and implementation of its business intelligence and financial reporting capabilities.

This is an excellent contract opportunity for a versatile BI professional who enjoys taking full ownership of projects, from understanding initial business requirements through data integration, modelling, dashboard development, testing and final delivery.

The initial focus will be on developing and delivering a comprehensive financial reporting dashboard, helping the business streamline processes, automate manual reporting activities and improve visibility of key financial and operational information.

Working within a dynamic scale‑up environment, the successful candidate will need to combine strong technical capabilities with business analysis, stakeholder engagement and excellent communication skills.

Key Responsibilities

End-to‑End Power BI Development

• Independently manage the full Power BI delivery lifecycle, from requirements gathering and solution design through development, testing and implementation.
• Design, develop and deploy interactive Power BI dashboards and management reports.
• Build robust, scalable data models to support financial and operational reporting.
• Develop and optimise DAX measures, Power Query transformations and data relationships.
• Ensure dashboard accuracy, performance, usability and maintainability.

Data Integration & Automation

• Connect and integrate data from multiple internal systems, databases, APIs and data lake environments.
• Develop and configure data extraction, transformation and integration processes.
• Design and implement API‑based connections where required.
• Identify opportunities to automate manual finance reporting processes and reduce reliance on spreadsheets.
• Ensure data quality, consistency and reliability across reporting solutions.

Business Analysis & Stakeholder Management

• Work directly with Finance, Operations and other stakeholders to understand reporting needs and business challenges.
• Translate functional business requirements into practical technical solutions.
• Challenge existing reporting processes and recommend improvements.
• Manage stakeholder expectations, address resistance to change and encourage adoption of new reporting capabilities.
• Communicate effectively with both technical and non‑technical colleagues.
• Take ownership of requirements clarification, progress updates and stakeholder feedback.

Project Delivery

• Take responsibility for delivering the first operational dashboard during the initial two‑month engagement.
• Manage priorities, timelines and deliverables independently.
• Conduct end‑to‑end testing, data validation and user acceptance testing.
• Provide clear documentation, knowledge transfer and handover of completed solutions.
• Develop reporting solutions that can be expanded as the organisation continues to grow.

Required Skills & Experience

• Proven commercial experience as a Power BI Developer, BI Analyst, BI Consultant or similar.
• Strong hands‑on expertise with Microsoft Power BI, including Power Query, DAX and data modelling.
• Experience working with data lakes, APIs, relational databases and multiple data sources.
• Strong SQL skills and experience with data transformation and integration.
• Demonstrable experience delivering complete BI solutions independently, rather than focusing solely on dashboard visualisation.
• Experience implementing finance dashboards, management reporting or financial process automation.
• Ability to gather business requirements and translate them into functional, user‑friendly reporting solutions.
• Previous experience within scale‑up businesses, rapidly growing organisations or dynamic environments.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, including the ability to navigate resistance and influence business users.
• Comfortable working autonomously with limited supervision.
• Fluent Dutch communication skills are essential.
• Experience with Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Lake or Azure Data Factory.
• Familiarity with financial systems, ERP platforms and finance‑related data structures.
• Experience improving reporting environments that currently rely on manual processes and Excel.
• Knowledge of data governance, access controls and reporting best practices.
• Previous experience supporting finance and operations teams through digital transformation.
• Experience designing scalable BI architectures suitable for growing businesses.

Ideal Candidate

You should be equally comfortable discussing reporting requirements with Finance stakeholders, working directly with data models and APIs, and presenting a completed dashboard to business users.

Strong communication skills, flexibility and the ability to work effectively with different personalities and levels of technical understanding are essential.

The primary objective of the initial engagement will be to deliver the organisation’s first finance‑focused Power BI dashboard.

This will include:

• Understanding and documenting financial reporting requirements.
• Reviewing existing data sources, systems and integration requirements.
• Designing and developing the necessary data models and connections.
• Building and configuring the Power BI dashboard.
• Testing and validating financial data and reporting accuracy.
• Implementing the solution, supporting user acceptance and completing handover.
