HCL Technologies Limited is seeking an experienced PostgreSQL Database Administrator to support a business-critical data platform in the banking sector. You will work hands-on in PostgreSQL administration and contribute to automation and platform operations within an international Agile DevOps team.

The role involves planned migrations to PostgreSQL, ongoing reliability improvements, and performance tuning.

Qualifications

• Experience in PostgreSQL database administration and production support.
• Strong knowledge of Linux and scripting (Bash/Python).
• Hands-on experience with performance tuning, indexing, replication, backup and recovery.
• Familiarity with on-call rotations and incident response in a DevOps environment.
• Experience with migrations and cloud/DevOps tooling is a plus.

We’re looking for an experienced PostgreSQL Database Administrator to join HCLTech and support a business-critical data platform in the banking sector.

This is a hands-on role focused primarily on PostgreSQL database administration, with additional responsibilities in automation and platform operations. You’ll join an international Agile DevOps team, help execute a planned migration to PostgreSQL and support the ongoing reliability and performance of the platform.

What you’ll do

• Install, configure, maintain, patch and upgrade PostgreSQL databases.
• Monitor database health, investigate bottlenecks and optimise SQL queries and indexes.
• Manage replication, high availability, backups and recovery.
• Administer databases, schemas, tables, user roles and access permissions.
• Investigate production incidents, perform root cause analysis and support capacity planning.
• Automate database maintenance and operational tasks using scripting and relevant tooling.
• Execute migration activities within an established approach.
• Participate in an on-call rotation, with compensation handled separately from the regular package.

What you’ll bring

• The ability to manage production DBA activities independently.
• Practical expertise in performance tuning, indexing, replication, backup and recovery.
• Extensive database administration experience, ideally around 10 years or more. Experience across Oracle, SQL Server or other databases is welcome alongside strong recent PostgreSQL expertise.
• Familiarity with Linux and scripting, such as Bash or Python.
• Clear communication in English and a collaborative approach to working with technical teams.

Additional experience we welcome

Ansible, Azure DevOps pipelines, Docker, Git/GitHub, Maven, and monitoring tools such as Prometheus, Grafana or ELK.

Strong PostgreSQL DBA expertise is our priority. Gaps in supporting DevOps tools are not automatic deal breakers.

Location and working arrangement

The team is based in Leeuwarden, with attendance required at least once a week. Candidates living elsewhere in the Netherlands are welcome, provided they can meet this requirement.
