Job summary

University of Amsterdam (UvA) invites applications for a one‑year postdoc position within the IRInA ERC Starting Grant project. You will study how civilisational narratives are received by East African media audiences, using digital ethnography, interviews and cross‑platform analysis.

The position includes fieldwork in Uganda, publication goals of multiple peer‑reviewed articles, and active participation in a vibrant international research community in Amsterdam.

Qualifications

• Completed PhD in media and communication studies, anthropology, African studies or related field.
• Demonstrated expertise in East Africa and qualitative research methods.
• Knowledge of languages spoken in Uganda is an asset; Swahili a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design and conduct an original postdoctoral project on reception of civilisational narratives in East Africa.
• Undertake digital ethnography, interviews, and fieldwork in Uganda and possibly another East African country.
• Publish peer‑reviewed outputs, present findings at international conferences, and contribute to workshops.
