Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Sociology. The project is part of the ORC-NWA consortium and focuses on micro-level environments of conflict and escalation, analyzing video-recorded encounters across sectors.

The successful candidate will work with four PhD students, contribute to developing a video observational instrument, and perform statistical analyses while engaging with societal partners.

Qualifications

• PhD in a social science field and proven academic excellence.
• Experience in interdisciplinary research teams.
• Strong knowledge of ethnographic and statistical methods.
• Interest in violence and conflict studies.
• Experience with empirical research involving societal stakeholders.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Excellent command of Dutch (B2) and English (C1).

Responsibilities

• Coordinate with societal partners and project communication officer.
• Support PhD researchers in data collection and collaboration.
• Develop a video observational measurement instrument.
• Carry out statistical analyses of escalatory and de-escalatory incidences.
• Publish findings in academic journals and practitioner materials.
• Present results at conferences and workshops.
• Join De-Escalation lab and contribute to the department's intellectual life.
• Carry out administrative tasks for the project.
