You will join the multidisciplinary protein characterization team within Analytical Development (AD) in Johnson & Johnson’s Discovery, Product Development and Supply (DPDS) organization. The Leiden AD team supports development and commercial manufacturing of protein-based products. Our work includes method development, comparability studies, protein characterization, complex investigations, and life cycle management. We also enable technical innovation, lab operations, regulatory filings, automation, and advanced data analytics. Science and innovation drive our work through respectful collaboration and commitment to patients. Our diverse international team includes more than 15 nationalities and varied professional backgrounds. This role offers firsthand experience in bringing products to patients, from development through commercialization.

The IMPACT you will make: You will develop a novel LC-MS analytical platform to better understand how glycosylation drives function in our antibody-based biotherapeutics, enabling predictive tools that support smarter biologic drug development and life cycle management.

  • Develop an LC-MS and automated data processing workflow for glycosylation analysis on intact-protein level for multiple biotherapeutics (candidates) including monoclonals, bispecifics, trispecifics.
  • Set up a comprehensive toolbox for predicting antibody function based on manufacturing process parameters and quality attributes of our biotherapeutics.
  • Collaborate across departments and with external, academic partner institutions to strengthen a multidisciplinary approach to improve our understanding of how biotherapeutic engineering and manufacturing conditions influence their structure-function relationships.
  • Publish results in scientific journals and present at international conferences.
  • You will pioneer translational research by developing groundbreaking technologies which eventually can benefit thousands of patients worldwide.
  • You will be the leader of your own project with a high level of independence, mentored by experienced scientists who have a strong background in both academic and industrial research.
  • You will have a dedicated budget and ample opportunities for training and traveling to scientific conferences.

This Postdoc position specifically strives to develop talent and improve multidisciplinary collaborations both internally as well as externally with academic partners.
  • PhD in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a related scientific field with 0-2 years of postdoctoral experience in academia or industry.
  • Hands-on LC-MS, data processing, and interpretation experience.
  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative attitude with eagerness for a multidisciplinary way of working.
  • Experience in and enthusiasm for publishing scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals and communicating research results at scientific conferences.

Expected salary range: €53,500.00 - €85,445.00
