Job summary

Delft University of Technology’s ICAI Robust RAIL Lab is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to bridge trustworthy multi-model optimization and timetabling for a multi-operator railway. The work spans macroscopic capacity planning to microscopic simulation and involves ProRail and NS collaboration.

The position is 16 months full-time (32–40 hours/week), with salary and benefits governed by the Dutch Universities’ collective agreement.

Qualifications

• Recent PhD in optimization, operations research, machine learning, or a closely related field.
• Strong mathematical/algorithmic grounding.
• Interest at the interface of theory and a large real-world transport system.

Responsibilities

• Develop trustworthy multi-model optimization pipelines spanning macroscopic to microscopic levels.
• Address timetabling and multi-operator railway problems with market design considerations.
• Collaborate with the Algorithmics section, ProRail and NS, shaping the research agenda.
