Job summary

Maastricht University is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher for the Upcycled Clinic project to study open innovation and material creativity in the medical technology field. You will lead ethnographic fieldwork and interviews across the Netherlands, exploring how hospitals and clinics repurpose materials and collaborate with industry partners to drive sustainable healthcare innovation.

Ideal candidates hold a PhD in relevant fields, have strong English proficiency, and can work collaboratively

Qualifications

• Completed PhD or assessment concluded no later than end of October 2026.
• Experience with ethnographic fieldwork or related methods.
• Proficiency in English at C1 level or higher; Dutch is a plus.
• Knowledge of R&D, innovation processes, medical technology companies/start-ups or related settings.
• Ability to meet deadlines and work actively in a team.

Responsibilities

• Design your own research project within the scope of the larger study.
• Conduct ethnographic fieldwork and interviews in the Netherlands and nearby regions.
• Publish within the duration of the post-doc, solo or co-authored.
• Help organize group meetings, events and workshops.
• Contribute to creating the project’s open dataset and website.
