Job summary

TU Delft invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher to predict and mitigate liquid copper infiltration in steels by atomistic simulations. You will develop MLIP-enabled MD workflows and validate them against DFT accuracy, working with European partners to improve recyclability and steel processing.

You will advance copper–silicon competition at grain boundaries, publish results, and contribute to grant proposals within a dynamic, interdisciplinary team at TU Delft.

Qualifications

  • PhD in Materials Science and Engineering or related field.
  • Strong expertise in atomistic/molecular simulation techniques and MLIP development.
  • Proven research record with publications in international journals.
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Develop atomistic insights into liquid copper infiltration and silicon inhibition in steels using MD/DFT approaches.
  • Create a DFT-accurate ML interatomic potential for multi‑component steel systems.
  • Collaborate with European institutes and industry partners to connect modelling with process design.
  • Contribute to publications, conferences and grant proposals.
