Job summary

TU Delft invites applications for a PhD project focused on trace element thermodynamics in high-temperature steelmaking environments. The work spans experiments, modelling, and industry impact, with collaboration between TU Delft and Tata Steel IJmuiden.

You will perform high-temperature experiments, characterise samples with SEM and ICP-MS, and develop predictive models for process optimization. The ideal candidate will hold an MSc in a closely related field, have a passion for thermodynamics,

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a closely related field is required.
  • Strong interest in thermodynamics and high-temperature processes.
  • Laboratory experience and materials characterization techniques are valued.
  • Knowledge of thermodynamic modelling or willingness to learn FACTSage.

Responsibilities

  • Design and conduct high-temperature equilibration experiments.
  • Analyze samples using laser ablation ICP-MS and electron microscopy.
  • Integrate data into thermodynamic models for industrial applications.
  • Collaborate with TU Delft and Tata Steel R&D partners.
