Job summary

TNO-PITC in Enschede is seeking a Process Engineer for Photonic Integrated Circuits to develop and optimize advanced fabrication processes. You’ll focus on thin-film piezoelectric materials on silicon nitride waveguides, bridging academic R&D and commercial applications in data security, quantum, and sensing.

Collaborating with TNO, TU/e, UT, and PhotonDelta, you will implement deposition schemes, validate device performance, and assist industrial partners in bringing photonics solutions to

Qualifications

• MSc in applied physics, nanosciences or related technical field.
• At least 4 years of technology development experience in a cleanroom.
• Demonstrated experience with thin-film deposition and photolithographic structuring.

Responsibilities

• Develop innovative material deposition schemes for piezoelectric materials (e.g., PZT, aluminum nitride).
• Integrate piezoelectric stacks on SiN waveguides and characterize device performance.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams from TNO and University of Twente.
• Support industrial partners in translating photonics solutions into commercial products.
• Ensure fabrication processes are efficient, cost-effective and aligned with client specs.
