Job summary

TU Delft invites applications for a PhD position in Ocean - Sea Ice Interactions. The project combines an ocean LES with a Discrete Element Model of sea ice to improve understanding of fine-scale processes and to develop parameterizations for climate models.

You will validate simulations with in-situ and remote sensing data, collaborate with TU Delft colleagues and international partners, and there may be an opportunity to participate in a research cruise in Antarctica.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Earth sciences, oceanography, the cryosphere, or atmospheric science.
• Interest in the intersection of solid/fluid mechanics.
• Excellent command of written and spoken English.
• Ability to start the position in January-March 2027 (with some flexibility).

Responsibilities

• Model coupled ocean and sea ice processes using LES and DEM.
• Validate simulations against in-situ and remote sensing data.
• Develop parameterizations for climate models.
• Collaborate with TU Delft and international teams.
