Job summary

The University of Groningen invites applications for a PhD candidate position in Neuromorphic Computing, FPGA Design, and Hardware Acceleration. You will contribute to the QuNeCo project, designing neuromorphic architectures, exploring memory technologies, and prototyping accelerators on FPGA platforms.

You will collaborate with international partners and supervise students as appropriate. Responsibilities span from architectural exploration to hardware prototyping and experimental evaluation,

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a closely related field.
  • Strong background in computer architecture and digital hardware design.
  • Experience with hardware description languages (Verilog/SystemVerilog/VHDL).
  • Familiarity with FPGA development or RTL design methodologies.
  • Knowledge of neuromorphic computing, AI hardware, or hardware accelerators.
  • Programming in Python and/or C/C++.
  • Experience with EDA tools is an advantage.
  • Excellent English communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop next-generation neuromorphic computing systems from architectural exploration to hardware prototyping.
  • Collaborate with partners in the Netherlands and Japan; participate in meetings and research visits.
  • Prototype hardware accelerators on FPGA platforms and evaluate performance and energy efficiency.
  • Publish research findings in conferences and journals.
