Job summary

A PhD candidate at Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) will investigate how natural variation in indoor temperatures influences residents’ perceptions and interactions with the building envelope. This research is part of the Nature 4 Homes project and will combine measurements, resident input and modelling.

You will work with AE&T and the Meteorology and Air Quality group, collaborating with residents, housing corporations and industry partners to advance climate-adaptive housing solutions

Qualifications

  • MSc in architecture, architectural engineering, meteorology or atmospheric sciences, environmental sciences, or civil engineering.
  • Strong interest in human perception, building design, and climate change.
  • Motivated to conduct research with residents in real-world dwellings in the Netherlands.
  • Affinity with modelling and analysing indoor and outdoor environmental conditions.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Fascination for science and interdisciplinary teamwork.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research within the Nature 4 Homes project addressing how natural variation in thermal conditions influences residents’ perceptions, acceptance and interactions with the building envelope.
  • Use a citizen science approach to investigate indoor and outdoor thermal and ventilation conditions in existing dwellings in the Netherlands.
  • Develop new methods to characterize natural variation of indoor conditions in relation to outdoor conditions and predict this variation using climate scenarios and data collected in dwellings.
  • Collaborate with residents, housing corporations and industry partners and work in an open, interdisciplinary team.

Education

MSc in architecture, architectural engineering, meteorology or atmospheric sciences, environmental sciences, or civil engineering
