Amsterdam University Medical Center offers PhD in Spatial Proteomics and Neurodegenerative Disease in Amsterdam, focused on spatial proteomics and single-cell investigation of frontotemporal dementia. Amsterdam UMC is recruiting a doctoral researcher to develop and apply spatial proteomics approaches to neurodegeneration, including frontotemporal dementia. The project links molecular processes in brain tissue and experimental neural models to identify disease-associated cellular changes. The PhD work involves analysis of post‑mortem human brain material, patient‑derived cellular systems such as induced pluripotent stem‑cell models, and modern spatial or single‑cell proteomic methods. Analysis of high‑dimensional data and interpretation of cellular interactions are core research activities.A master’s degree in neuroscience, molecular biology, biomedical science, computational biology or an equivalent discipline with relevant molecular or quantitative research experience is required. 36‑hour doctoral appointment; application screening may start before the listed closing date. Compensation or funding: EUR 3,217–4,077 gross per month on Dutch doctoral scale. Stated appointment or programme length: Four years subject to initial contract review. Application timing: 15 November 2026 at 23:59 Europe/Amsterdam on source application page; applications assessed continuously.Who This Opportunity Is Best Suited For: Applicants with neurodegeneration knowledge, proteomics or single‑cell data analysis experience, and interest in coupling laboratory and computational techniques may be well suited.Potential Challenges / Who May Find It Less Suitable: Handling post‑mortem human samples and specialised molecular datasets requires meticulous laboratory practice and data integrity. The project is more targeted than a general neuroscience PhD.Overall Opportunity Assessment: The key attraction is the mechanistic spatial analysis of neurodegenerative pathology across human tissues and experimental cell systems.
